Great DNA Kit

Not disappointed!

I have had a very positive experience with 23andme! I have never known by father. But through 23andme I am connecting with my paternal side. I have to claim that I do not understand all the scientific data, but the reality of the results has been life changing. Thank you!

Countless cousins!

That 23andMe identified a known 1st cousin once removed was the first nice surprise, but I was shocked to see so many unknown cousins--until I worked on my family tree. It seems all my greats and great-greats had one ot two dozen children through two or three marriages. When I was zeroing in with a newly-found cousin on our connection, I asked if she was descended from the first or second wife of our 2x great-grandfather. She answered that with her DNA results, she had learned she was descended from both!
There are enough mysteries to last a lifetime, but it's extremely satisfying to make solid connections. A third cousin and I thought we had almost found our connection, but he passed away at age 91,without our answer. He was a delightful man, and I miss hearing from him. A nephew of his and anther of his relatives are more distant cousins to me. We know we are family, so we'll keep learning how to read the clues.
The cousins who know nothing about their families are the ones who grab my heart. They are the ones I struggle hardest to help. They are obviously related to me through one of my ancestors, and they deserve to know as much as DNA can tell us.
The most gratifying aspect of learning the story of own my ancestors' journey from the cradle of civilization in northern Africa is that science and history have together proved we are each and all part of the Family of Mankind.

23andme made a difference in my life and my family

My husband, adult son and I bought the kits in the early days of 23andme. My husband, an adoptee, did not know anything about his ancestry or health . I learned new things about myself, too. The best part is that after a lifelong search for answers, in my husband's case, he found a half-brother and learned about his deceased mother and maternal side. I have quite a few relatives in the 23andme data base and have connected to many new ones. It brought a whole new hobby into my life and I am in my 70's. I look at my results every day and am always excited with new discoveries.

Getting my whole family to participate

I've participated in several leading DNA services and 23andme certainly is the industry leader. I got the whole 23andme package and it exceeded my expectations. My results have changed quite a bit since my initial results came in. I had my spouse, my mother, grandmother and great-grandmother participate with 23andme, thanks to the Mother's day promo... :) When my toddler is old enough to provide an adequate DNA sample, I suspect 23andme will have a 5 generation link of my families' DNA. I got my father (and his spouse) and half sister to join. This has been an incredible gift to give others! I would give 5 stars if there was a family tree feature with access to record databases. On critique is that great-grandparents are reduced to the "relatives and friends" category on Share and Compare, instead of being on your "Close family" tree.

Simply the best

23andMe revolutionized the way I looked my health and genetic ancestry. I've learned things about my heritage that would not have been possible without 23andMe's superb features like the Ancestry Composition chromosome painting and its triangulation tool. This is the best test on the market.

I was looking forward to finding out where my illness might have come from. Mine didn't match the varients with the symptoms/diseases I have. Disappointed!
