Surprising results

This was a really easy process and the results were surprising to myself and my siblings. We always thought we were 50% German and we are not. 23 and me sends emails and has tutorials to help you understand your results. I am very happy that I did this and will recommend to family members. It also tells you how many people you are related to that have done the 23 and me.

I bought this kit for my mom, after failing to find connection to a father she never knew. I figured that the least i could do is give her an overall view of family origins. Little did i expect to discover her half brother on her father's side!! Talk about hitting the genetic lottery!!!

The 23 & Me genetic test is an interesting & informative way of connecting with one's family history, in addition to the larger context of world history & a deeper knowledge of one's place in the world. If you have an inquiring intellect, I recommend this test--you may have some surprises waiting for you in your quest for knowledge. As Plato wisely said: "Know thyself."

Incredible technology combined with a very easy test kit make this a very valuable tool in learning about one's makeup and susceptibility to illness or disease. Knowledge of these traits might help shape behavior and understanding of factors that shape health overall.

The health and ancestry services at 23andMe have opened a secret door and provided me with genetic information and facts that have been fascinating, helpful and surprising. I have made connections with relatives I would never have known I had, have explored ethnicities that - until now - I never would have guessed I was a part of. Well worth every cent.

I'm the kind of person that hates surprises, so I had to know about my DNA! People have said I'm pretty brave to do this, I say...it's a medical breakthrough that we all should take advantage of. Why not be pro-active with your health. I have found some genes I do NOT want to activate and I may also be eligible for some clinical trials. IT has been so fascinating viewing my results and sharing with my family. For me, this has been eye opening and I want to do everything I can to maintain my health. I have also found some family, cousins...out in CA that have allowed us to rekindle our friendship. Also, many folks who have been adopted come up on my relationship link...why not help someone who is searching for their family too.

Ancestry Composition features

23andme has the best admixture calculator and chromosome painting ever. However I would like for 23andme to update its Ancestry Composition admixture tool, including adding more sub-regions, as well as its Haplogroup predictions, including the outdated genomic build platforms (23andMe is on Build 7 while Build 17 was released February 2016); restoring our ability to see the Chromosome Paintings of people with whom we're sharing; and adding an "Ethnicity" segment element to the chromosome browser/mapper tool where customers can see displayed the location, size AND ethnicity(s) of shared DNA segments. Then it will be 5-star.
