This was a gift from my wife. It is so easy to do and very interesting to find out where most of my ancestors came from.

Warning - Do Not Buy

I bought this well over 6 months ago and I wish I didn't. As soon as I sent my sample in, the company declared bankruptcy. I garnered nothing more from this product than what I already knew. I was hoping for some new insights.

I'm very satisfied with 23&Me. It's always updating info about my DNA and I've learned so much about myself not to mention all the cousins I've met.

Terrible Customer Service

I generally don't post reviews unless they are really good or really bad. A few years ago I would have given 23andme 5 stars as they were in my opinion the best ancestry service. I especially liked the ancient ancestors I don't get anywhere else.
Last year they auto charged me for the renewal of my premium service which I wasn't really using. After a call with customer service they did refund me but did not tell me to print or download my ancient ancestor info or other data. I thought the information known at the time of terminating my premium account would remain but it disappeared. I wish I had printed it so I kept a record but I never imagined they would hide known information that I already paid for. I called customer service again and they offered me nothing except to pay for another whole year and print out what I want to keep. They never told me that before.
I have several accounts on 23andme but usually use a different one than the email I received asking me to review my "recent purchase". Since I did not purchase anything new I am wondering if they inappropriately charged me for another renewal? Or is this just poor customer service again? I did ask them for a one month courtesy or even a short subscription, suggested they offer another tier level for people that cant spend hours per month on this or even just to maintain the results we get during our year long subscription. I received a definitive "no" to all of this.
I also reminded them that I stuck with them through their bankruptcy when other told me to delete all of my accounts. I have encouraged others to join as well. They just didn't care and acted like they did me a favor when they cancelled my auto renewal (which was their mistake in the first place)
If they want our loyalty they need to earn it. I am insulted and they don't deserve our business or support until they respect their customers. If they charge me again I will simply report it as a fraudulent charge.
23andMe, if you want to survive under your new entity respect the customers that supported you the first time around. I wont chase you but you are losing more than you realize!

I have had this for several years as a gift but have not made any recent ;purchases I have enjoyed the process and the background of my genetic influences by DNA! I also found some other related individual that were influenced by my PaPa!
