I'm happy with the overall service and I'm interested in your premium services but I hate the subscription model. It feels like you're charging an ongoing rate for items that are one time in nature and I hate having monthly charges hitting that I feel like I have to track and evaluate on a consistent basis. I don't mind ongoing charges when the value I receive is ongoing, but this doesn't feel like that so I have no plans to ever purchase additional features.

i did 23 and me and ancestry. 23 and me didn’t find anyone of closer than 2nd cousin and the medical section was such a generic joke. Ancestry actually found a half brother and half sister. Thank god i did because now i have siblings i never knew i had. We have been talking and grateful for ancestry and not 23 and me.

I went with 23andMe for the health information, only to find that you want more money to give me the details. For the standard amount, I get information like no markers for breast cancer (I had a lumpectomy a month ago), and that I have a marker for macular degeneration, but no more likelihood than normal to have it. You also want more money to tell me what famous ancestors I have. There were no surprises in the ancestry breakdown.

I'm adopted so I wanted health and family info. I get a bunch of basics to rule out carrier status but most of the info is locked behind another pay wall and I get routine prompts to buy the $69 annual membership.

BAM… I do have blood relatives after all!

I’ve looked for my biological parents for decades, mostly to find out medical history. I was adopted at birth so I never knew anything to look out for. After multiple and various forms of searches, 23 and Me linked a half sibling with my DNA. That led to the biological mom, a name for the biological dad, four half siblings, and another adopted sibling! And that’s only on the mom side. BAM instant relatives never knew I had and they’ve been so welcoming and just as curious as I have been. What a wonderful new journey in life.
