It's okay. Take everything with a grain of salt.

I tried both Ancestry DNA and 23&Me. Most of the ancestry aspect of both is similar but 23 and me added extra geographical ancestry where there is no evidence of ancestry for our family. And we have a very large tree that goes back hundreds of years that took a lot of detailed thorough investigation and research over many many years. What I don't understand is that 23&Me says, in addition to DNA, based on what other 23andMe members report where their ancestors are from, that's where my results come from. I'm not sure if they're using DNA AND subjective information from other members or not. So, I'm not sure which ancestry results I should trust. As for the health aspect, that's okay. It's good to know some of the information, however they do say that they do not test all of the variants that would be an accurate indicator whether or not a specific illness could actually potentially affect us or not. For example, they say they may test 2 or 3 variants out of 20 for a particular potential health risk. What good is that? They should also give a specified range for what "typical likelihood" means. To me, typical likelihood means the same as if I never took the test in the first place, I either get it or I don't. Also, the majority of the traits they say match my DNA are completely wrong and opposite of what is actually. For example, eye color, freckles, ring finger length, hair texture, fairness of skin, skin pigmentation, stretch marks, cilantro taste, fear of heights, fear of public speaking, flat feet, ice cream flavor, photic sneeze reflex, preference of sweets... ALL of these and more are wrong! My neighbor can guess and get better results. Ancestry DNA has this part nearly spot on accurate! Hopefully 23&Me will make A LOT of improvements and update members as they are made. Also on a side note, it would be really nice to be able to zoom in on the maps they provide when showing you where your ancestors are from. It's an awesome feature that we use a lot with AncestryDNA.

The information received was consistent when other DNA test results from other sites. However, I was led to believe that 23 & Me would be able to identify my DNA to specific tribes. But that didn't happen. I wouldn't recommend it if you're looking for specific tribes. But, other than that I would recommend it

The results were interesting, but there was not nearly as much information as I was hoping for as far as the health piece goes. I should have done more research before purchasing. This has a very limited scope as far as what they do actually test.

Ancestry results were different than my brother's eye were. I'm a little curious how two people born to the same parents with the same family can have different ancestry? I was drawn to do this by the promise that there were so many traits and variants that were going to be tested for. I got my results and was completely underwhelmed. Nearly every result I got said that people with similar profiles had a nearly 50% chance of developing whatever condition. Everyone essentially has a 50% chance of developing any condition. But there were no physical traits even tested for other than dimples. And again, I have a nearly 50% chance of having dimples. No kidding.
I paid way too much money and waited too long to find out that nothing of any real substance.
