Satisfying my curiosity

I used Ancestry and really enjoyed all the geographic data. I finally signed up for 23andMe mostly for the genetics. It is so interesting to see all the information. I'm hoping lots of people do this because the bigger the group, the more everyone can learn. I taught biology 50 years ago and it's great to check in on the knowledge now of traits we discussed back then.

A DNA test did what nothing else could do.

My daughter got a 23andMe test to find out more about her ancestry. It turned up two very surprising results: About 9% Ashkenazi Jewish ancestry -- which was utterly unexpected -- and a close relative we had NEVER heard of.
A lot of searching using the techniques of forensic genealogy led to the truth: My own birth father was not at all who I'd been told he was. Instead, he was someone I had never heard of before.
These situations can go well, or they can go very badly. After getting a 23andMe test for myself, to officially confirm what I already now knew, I contacted my father's family. They knew about me, had looked for me for decades, but had been blocked by an adoption that had obliterated all trace of my original name.
I now have a wonderful half sister, a wonderful half brother, a wonderful stepmom and other great family members.
A DNA test certainly can't guarantee that. But it can at least lead you closer to the truth, if that's what you're searching for.

family tree

The structure and guidance in the creation of my family tree was very helpful. The genetic ancestry portion was 50%-60% inconclusive, and 40% conclusive which made me doubt the credibility of the results. I am disappointed

Wasn’t Worth Cost

Fun to get the results but they are very basic, even with the upgrades, and don’t actually tell you much. Save your money.

Not what I expected

So disappointed! Expected to hear about close relatives more. How are distant relatives found but not 1st, 2nd cousins? Makes no sense. I didn’t learn anything I didn’t already know. Waste of money!!

The medical gave nothing specific. There were things that my sister and I noticed that were incorrect about me. Also the main pages have to many articles on it. I also have not found a way to find history in reference to my ancestors. I am going to have to use YouTube for assistance. I also have Ancestry and it is much more user friendly. Also, giving hints about my ancestors/relatives.

It's expensive, but interesting if you can afford!

I enjoyed learning unique things about my DNA variants and matching it up with some of the characteristics that I actually have. And it was good to see some of the potential health issues to keep an eye on. It also matched me up with several distant family members to form a "family tree". The price was expensive, but worth it if you can afford it.

My Fam shown Cancer and Parkinsons symptoms so I wanted to plan ahead and be ready for what it may come. Ordered the Kitt and dove into the app and the web page, the waiting process is super easy to go through as they give you step by step of what's happening and the amount of information that unlocks when your results are ready is beyond amazing. You will need several hours/days to go throught the entire set of information super detailed. Be warn that the information given can be truly impactful for people that may have anxiety or that may get depressed and traped in their own minds by negative.thoughts, however the 23andme team allows you to choose what to see amd what not to see. From ancestry background to health conditions to personality traits. In addition they really safeguard your info and there is no crazy "cloning"/"owning" your genetic material clausule in their terms and conditions. I 100% recommend do the investment.
