The Deep End of the Gene Pool

This was a Christmas gift from my wife. I thought it would be good info for my own health and genogram work. Probably useful for my 9 sisters and brothers as well. Didn't realized just how far this could dig into my own health patterns.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Family Connections?

This product lacks in connecting cousins to a specific ancestor. For example: It can tell me that we have a third-great-grandparent in common, but cannot tell me which set of third-great-grandparents it is. How can I connect them to my family tree when we have no common names to connect to? I am disappointed in this part of the program.

Health info questioned

Bought this product several months ago mainly to see my heritage and ancestry. At the time I included the health portion in what I purchased and was required to fill out a questionnaire concerning my health. Turns out all the information I received back was basically everything I already knew because I already had those conditions and health problems. Didn't get any new information. I was pleased to see my ancestry and I would recommend buying that portion to my family and friends.

Simple and accurate

I was not expecting this to be so accurate. My family member took one and we surprisingly had close results to other tests we have done. Simply off by bits of percentages.

Disappointed at how little I learned

I had expected more. But everything was "typical likelihood". I guess that's good, but the impression created is that you learn a lot about how to become healthier, live longer, and avoid conditions you may be genetically predisposed to. I got none of that. All I learned that I didn't know before was that I was 11% Jewish, which I'm quite happy about since most of my friends are Jewish and I believe they have a great culture. So if a lot of other people ARE learning important things, great, maybe I'm just lucky. If not, perhaps some pivot in their marketing of expectations may make sense. Instead of "learn what you have to look out for", maybe more like "make sure you don't have any genetic predispositions you are not aware of". I will say that it was right on in telling me physical characteristics like my eye color, hair thickness, receding hairline, lack of freckles, etc. So, I guess DNA analysis "works", it's just that it was an expensive way to really learn very little.
