Found I have a 1st cousin

He messaged me and said "did you see we are 1'st cousins. I immediately texted my cousin Jim and said I think you have another brother. He in-turn sent off his 23 and me he received for Christmas. Sure enough they are half brothers. The reunion is coming up in a few weeks for them. We have invited him to the family reunion this summer, so we can all meet him. We are a close knit family he should fit right in.

It Helped Me 'Deal'

So all my life I've been asked 'What are you?', 'Are you mixed?', ' What's your race?', and I've always said white, and I don't have a problem with that but after being asked the question constantly I decided to try this. I knew my family had a lot of Native American Ancestry but I had no idea that I had this much. And please understand I know the difference between my DNA and how I identify myself.But 23andMe helped me to understand why I look how I look, and why I don't look like the rest of my family. It made me feel more whole and connected to people I will never got the chance to know.

This was a gift. I was a bit skeptical at first, but this test beat my expectations by far. I only did the ancestry test, so can't speak for that. Very detailed report, shows me as 78% British and Irish, 10.9% Ashkenazi Jewish, and smaller amounts of French and German, Eastern European, and Native American. All of those make sense as My mother's family is Irish and Jewish, and my father's family lived here since for centuries. there were also some broad categories, such as broadly Southern European, which is good as they could still find approximate locations for more mysterious genes. One of the coolest things is that they showed exactly where in the UK and Ireland my ancestors came from. Other features unique to 23andme are neanderthal DNA and Maternal/Paternal DNA haplogroups. The relative matching feature is really accurate, and I found a second cousin. For some people, they can find long lost relatives. Definitely recommend the test, and did so to other family members, who will test their own DNA with this service soon.

I received my 23 & Me kit as a gift in 2017. I am extremely pleased with 23 & Me. I'm able to find information without paying an additional cost. I did the Ancestry test early this year and am do disappointed with their website! It's awful, in order to get our additional information we have to pay for it! So to me all Ancestry is interested in is making more money, not helping people.
So thank you 23 & Me for not taking advantage of people.

Raw Data and Confirmation of Ancestry

I have done extensive research on my family tree and I find that the ancestry mix shown by 23andme correlates very well with what I have found through family tree tracing. I have used the raw data to find many inherited traits. It has helped me with certain issues that I was not aware of having. I have increased my health quality by this research. Don't be spooked by "possible" problems you find. Do what you can to avoid them now that you know they exist. A few percentage points of possibility isn't really a big deal.
