Great Information

My husband and I did this and he was not expecting the result he got. I had no exception because I knew nothing about my dad's side of the family so it was great to finally know my ancestry. I giving the gift of 23 and me to my two kids.

I'm happy to know what I'm made up of.. always wondered if I had close relatives I'm not aware of .. hope that will be made known somehow.. was surprised how fast the results came in.. my twin brother and myself were anxiously waiting to know who our ancesters were.. we are so excited each time I get an email from 23andme! One more bit of who we are is so interesting!

Quick and Easy

Got our results within 3 weeks. I made a chart showing the 6 members of our family who did it this year. The only drawback is that there is not a good printable map showing the area your DNA is from. We all had fun going over the results. I think the results come with lots of info. BUT, the basic results and a map should pop up sooner and easier, as that's what we want to know. All the other information is nice, but should be listed distinctly separately for those who want to access it. It's not made clear that results change, sometimes a LOT.

Vague results

I bought a few months ago and my results were not very specific. About 75% of my heritage is apprantly Southern European, greater Eastern European or greater Western European
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

The 23andMe Health + Ancestry Service provides both health and ancestry information in a single service for a single price and is the first and only genetic service available directly to you that includes reports that meet FDA standards. You receive 65+ personalized genetic reports to help you understand what your DNA says about your health, traits and ancestry.
The population labels in Ancestry Composition refer to genetically similar groups, rather than nationalities. In general, we sought to make the populations as small as possible, subject to the constraint of being able to distinguish between them. Populations may be inherently difficult to distinguish because of historical mixing, or we might not have had enough data to tell them apart.
You can read about the population selection process in more detail in the corresponding section of the Ancestry Composition Guide:

Your results are a living analysis. Using thousands of reference individuals we are able to continually evolve and improve your results. As we update our reference data, it will not be uncommon to see slight shifts in your results over time.

I didn't really find out anything that I didn't already know. The ability to smell asparagus in my urine? That I'm likely to have a fair complexion with a 100% European background? Is that the best this can do? Maybe I need to spend more time on the website but my initial reaction is that for $200 there really wasn't much of interest. Not sure what I was expecting but the experience has been a disappointment.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
