Found Niece - which led to finding my birthfather

I recently matched someone on 23andMe, we had about 11% match of DNA. I spoke with her and found that her grandfather was in the same state as my birth mother when I was conceived. I also had a match on another DNA site that indicated she was a 1/2 sister living in France. After talking with her, the grandfather was looking like he was my father and was later to be confirmed that he was.

I want to thank this company for changing my life. I have always been an only child, until 2018 when I was matched to a young girl, she was suppose to be my 1st cousin. Well I did not believe this since I only had 3 cousins and I knew them. well after a little research and message to this person I found out she was my niece and that I had sisters. I was just looking to find out who my father is and did not expect to find a family. I am so happy this has really changed my life. I will always be thankful to your company for this wonderful change in my life. I will never have to say "I am an only child."

I love 23andme. I only wish more people would list their surnames and then there would be ways to determine relation. Also for having over a thousand reletives I cant search out very many by location, Again that gor=es back to listing surnames and adding your family trees. Just a way to help one another. Thanks

An Amazing Story

Thanks to 23 & Me, a second cousin, and a lot of good luck I was able to finally locate my biological mother whom I've never met since birth, 51 years!! She is alive and well and cant wait to finally meet me again. It only took 4 months on 23 & Me after looking for a lifetime through several registries. I also have 3 siblings that I cant wait to meet as well. I am so happy that I took a leap of faith and joined 23 & Me and I am grateful that I have been reunited with my mother and extended family that I was totally unaware of. My adoption was a "Closed Adoption" so if 23 & Me worked for me it can surely help answer questions you may be having about yourself. Thank you 23 & Me, my life has been forever changed...

My kit was a gift. But I found this to be interesting - right now I still have more questions than answers. On my fathers side my great grandmother is 100% Cherokee but my DNA didn't show any at all. It did confirm my European ancestors and I'm looking into doing additional research

Quick Testing, easy to read but

I recieved this as a Christmas Gift. I am adopted and wanted to find out more of my heritage. Well so far, the closest ive come to any family is a 1% match....I understand that not everyone has tested here, but....I also find it hard to believe that noone closer than a 3rd cousin at least twice removed has tested. Most are 85% 5th to distant. I am glad I didnt purchase the health when I sent in my sample.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I enjoy completing the surveys even though I didn't purchase the health reports. At my age I already know what I'm predisposed to. I was looking to expand my autosomal DNA matches and find this site to be difficult to work with for that purpose. My parents are deceased and don't have any known siblings, so I'm not able to identify or categorize my matches into maternal & paternal groups. Also as with other testing sites, no one responds to inquires.
