It was fascinatingly surprising.

I've always known I was mixed race as my father is African American and my mother is Caucasian. So I had always assumed that I was 50/50, until I got my results. 50.7% Euro and 38.7% Afro.
Which means, my father's side of the family had Euro in them that they didn't have any recollection of. So obviously they didn't believe it but still. It's great to know my ancestral makeup and it allows me to feel more at one with myself as well as the world around me and the people on it.

I find that some questions are too yes/no without explanation. For example: I have to skip ones that don’t apply to me now but did apply to me in the past and would have interest on present DNA results. I would suggest that there is box for additional information on most question groups. i.e. I’m adopted and would like to verify it sometimes.

23andMe different results from others.

23andMe has differing results well within the range of comparative DNA kits. I prefer this kit because one has the ability to upload into other kits. Accuracy is about 85%. As a biologist and geneticist myself 23and&whether "their" scientists realize or not has debunked some "archeological theories" based on Bone findings. That is all I can say about it. I would recommend it over other kits.

I bought the ancestry kit a few months ago and its a lot better than what it was before. Before, the reports gave very little information on my African and South Asian genetics but with their new update the report is becoming a lot more detailed in that regard.
23andme still has a ways to go when it comes go including other ethnic populations into their genetic database, but they are trying. I believe after maybe 1-3 updates my genetic report would be complete with not one DNA segment left unidentified.

Interesting finds about my life

This was purchased as a gift from my daughter. I find it quite interesting finding out more about my ancestry and information about possible health issues. Only disappointment being is my father, his brothers and my brother is deceased so I feel I've hit a dead end in as far as going any further getting my haplogroup lineage from my fathers side. Is there a possibility of getting it from my brothers son?

DNA Family Needs Sorting Features

One of my goals of using 23andMe is to find paternal relations. I found the DNA Relatives section difficult to use, especially when trying to compare paternal haplogroups. The website would be better with a more robust way of searching or filtering relatives. It is also unnecessarily difficult moving from one relative to another because the "back button" takes you to the start, not the previously-viewed list.
