I was raised by a nice puerto rican family .. not at age 66 my brother and I do the test to see what we find and I find out that we are not brothers. Now I have the quest to see if I was switched at birth or adopted. I think I might of found my birth family here on 23andme!

You all have no clue, with the help of a cousin and 23 and me, I found my my Birth Father and Mother in a few weeks. I was adopted at birth, by a great pair of parents. But since they passed I knew that my Birth Father and Mother were still out there and they were very young when I was conceived.
I have found both and have a great relationship with both, my father had no clue and mom always wondered what kind of life I had.
Thank You and contact me if you want to know more......

51 years ago I was placed up for adoption. With this dna test I was linked up to my half sister which led me to my (deceased) biological father, to my biological Aunt who put me in contact with my biological mother. Mama and I now talk almost every day - incredible to say the least!

Cool information- but old chips are disappointing!

When my DNA was processed, I thought 23andMe offered much more in depth ancestry results. However, after encouraging my sister to get a kit so we could compare... it made me very disappointed. Her results were updated today, since she was on a newer chip and the results are even more in contrast. Hers are more in depth, new ancestries, refined percentages. Meanwhile- mine are the same old results, no updates to my much larger broad categories. Makes it impossible to compare with a full blooded sibling what we inherited, if you end up on different chips. We got the kits less than a year apart, so I am very disappointed in how badly the old chips age. I don't recommend having a family member buy a kit to compare to yours (unless they change their chip upgrading and make it accessible to older customers), you'll just be disappointed! :(

here:
you 23andme com reports ancestry_composition_hd
when it lists the percentage that mom and dad
contributes to my 0.1% unassigned;
they list both mom and dad as 0.1%
which adds up to 0.2% not 0.1%.
and on mom's ancestry page
they list her as 0% unassigned (100% euro).
clearly she contributes 0% to my 0.1%.
they changed my ancestry again;
they thought I was 0.1% north african
until they figured out the guy with 0.1% west african
was my brother;
now they say I'm 0.1% unassigned and no african;
the african in my brother is not from our mom (she is 100% euro)
so it must be from dad;
indeed my half-sister who shares my dad,
has 0.3% west african and 0.3% unassigned.
how do they decide I'm not african?
did they transition from list speculative
to listing only conservative ancestry estimate?

Pro-The DNA kit experience was quick and very easy! It was much quicker getting my results than with Ancestry.
Con-If you are expecting lots of interaction with your matches...Forget it! You can rarely get anyone to answer any messages you send!

Changes to the Family Narrative

I purchased 23andme for my 40th birthday. I wanted to see how my family story came to be and in these political times I needed to feel connected to the people around me. A year or so later I was contacted by a man that was adopted via 23andme, we were first cousins. As we continued down the rabbit trail we found the family story required some editing! Long story short, he found his read dad, my uncle. 23andme is a product that can provide a glimpse into the past and reveal things we don't know about ourselves, and if you are brave enough. It can change your story and how you see yourself in the world.
