Not very accurate

My mother's family (except for my mother and aunt) were all born in Hungary. We have a family tree that goes back hundreds of years. All from Hungary, but, yet, we are a small percentage of Hungarian? I'm not sure how they put everything together, but if they only go by how people have similarities in countries then they need to look how countries were split apart just under a 100 years ago. Large parts of Hungary are now other countries. We know where our family came from and to say I'm such a low percentage of Hungarian is completely inaccurate.

Thank you for your feedback. Our Ancestry Composition report assigns results based on your genetic similarity to our 31 populations worldwide. These populations refer to genetically similar groups, rather than nationalities.
We do not have a Hungarian reference population. Evidence of Hungarian ancestry would be reflected in our Eastern European reference population. If you do not see as much Eastern European ancestry as you expected, this is because you more closely resembled our other reference populations genetically. Keep in mind that you randomly inherit 50% of your DNA from each of your parents. For this reason, your ancestry assignments may vary depending on which DNA segments you inherited from each parent.

Health and intersexed questions

I've really enjoyed finding about my ancestry and cousins, but I primarily wanted to find out why I was born unusual. Unfortunately, 23&me is sadly lacking if you are primarily finding out why you might be this way. Turns out I have a more exotic form of swyers syndrome (more similar in form to MRKH though).

My kids gave it to me for my birthday. Absolutely shocked when I found over 1000 cousins,almost all I never knew existed. Cousins from Russia,England, and today a cousin from Canada. II didn't know I had relatives in England and Canada.This is now my favorite hobby.

Overall, I am happy with my kit and results. One exception noted is my hair is tight curls and according to the information provided to me it states my hair is likely straight. So incorrect. I found that interesting.

I got this kit because I really was curious about what my genetic roots are...it’s so cool! I can look and actually see what the human migration that makes up me was. To see whom I am related to blows my mind!! Thank you 23andMe!

It changed our lives in the best possible way

This story takes a little telling, but it is worth it. My son purchased the kit for me over a year ago and i set it aside. This year, I found it when we moved and i sent it in and discovered i was a little less of this and that and a little more of some other things. My wife (Beth) thought she would like to try it and i bought her a kit with one of the coupons i received....the best money, i have ever spent..... her results came back and said she had a half sister! We contacted Rebecca and Beth and her began exchanging messages. Before long we realized that this woman was the daughter of my Beth's father and she had no idea. The last name sounded familiar to her and her mother had recently passed, so she had all the family photographs. We were in absolute awe and so was Rebecca when she sent a photo of "the Whitneys" to us and my wife texted her back "that picture is me and my Sister Mary" Rebecca and Beth and Mary quickly moved to phone calls and it turned out that Rebecca lived only an hour and a half (by air) from us, so Beth and Mary flew up to meet Rebecca and it was like meeting a kindred soul. The story unfolded of the two families in Texas in the 1960's. How Rebecca's parents were having trouble conceiving. A few months later, Rebecca flew down to visit us and meet the rest of the family and the similarities between the three women is remarkable. Not just physically (they are within a 1/8th of an inch in height from each other), but in so many other ways. Rebecca just left after a week of being with us and we miss her already. We found a sister that we never knew we had and how we never know how we could live without. The bonding between her new nephews and nieces and the seduction of my cat is amazing and we are more complete of a family than ever.
What is more important in life that family? what is the value of adding a new person to your life, one you actually share a history with.
