Easy to read, neat tools, and unexpected bonus!

My husband, half sister, and I did the ancestry reports.
As half sisters we knew some of what our maternal line held but our paternal lines were a large mystery. With my husband his father was adopted by his step-father and his paternal grandfather never talked about. My husband and I also were tested in case our kids or future grandkids might like to know more about our family. They will now have that info :)

Some of our family lore has been proven true and we can each take pride in the stories told, traditions, and even favorite family dishes handed down for four generations. We've had a few laughs with the "No wonder we like this or that! It's in our DNA!"
23andMe presented a variety of reports in an easy to read and nicely laid out
fashion. Any questions we had were covered in the FAQ. There are some neat tools on the site. The DNA relative finder is fun for those of us who wouldn't mind finding that long lost cousin. I like being able to contact someone on site, in safety, before giving personal information. It was VERY thoughtful to add that service and sort of security for the customers.

The bonus --
Thanks to the time line report my sister , who is a family tree enthusiast , was able to verify time lines and adjust a few errors in our tree.
I know my sis, my bestest friend since day one, it was extremely gratifying for her to be able to "Yes! I was right. There we are, right there at that time and that place!"
To have over a decade of hard work verified with a time line that tells you a certain group entered a family line within a certain time was a lovely unexpected bonus.
On behalf of my sister -- thank you for that!
She's been able to contact cousins and they have trees -- so corrections and updates are probably crashing those sites *lol*

We were posting updates on the social media sites we use and found a large amount of family and friends have been thinking about doing it , but were just too uncertain about the whole thing and even the cost.
With our updates , screen shots posted, and telling them 23andMe has some great sales throughout the year; they are convinced.
It's been a lot of fun and I can't wait to compare and share with the family who has decided to do it!

Being adopted, I never imagined that I would be able to find any of my biological relatives. This product/program has opened up opportunities of a lifetime.

Good, but needs more African regions tested

Overall I was somewhat satisfied with my results but It still left me yearning for more details. It just didn't make me feel complete. I feel like this test gives way more information for European ancestry :(. My results came out mostly African but it was too generalized. I wish it had specifics on which countries in Africa my DNA ties to.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

IIt's all about not knowing!

I am adopted and had almost no information as to my nationality so I turned to 23 and Me. I have learned where and who my ancestors are. Now when someone asks "what are you"? I can answer I am English/German/French/Irish and feel good about it.

Very interesting: Often correct, sometimes not.

The product is easy to use and offers some good information, especially regarding potential health issues. I am grateful to know I do not have the Alzheimer's gene or the BRAC genes tested for. However, some characteristics in my report are not correct. I very much love cilantro and genetically you have said the opposite. Also I have thick hair and the test has said otherwise. Overall it is something I believe everyone should do for personal knowledge.

Frustrated by omission

My father and his father spoke Hungarian and my grandmother and grandfather came from Hungary. This is a distinct linguistic group (Fino-Ugric). 23 and me recognizes Finnish, but not Hungarian. Perhaps there was so much intermarriage historically in Eastern Europe that there is no longer any genetic distinction.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Health Reports Proven Accurate for My Family

I have found the ongoing health status reports to be interesting and accurate for my extended family. Would recommend purchasing this kit for that information.

I am so happy I chose 23 and me! I have learned so much about who I am( DNA). Also, the health DNA has truly changed my life. I have made major changes to my healthcare because of 23and me! They check for things doctors overlook or never test for. Thanku 23and ME!!!!
