In my reports, I was told that I have 1019 DNA family members. I have requested help 2 different times with no results. I have filled out several surveys but that is not getting me anywhere. It is hard to give any kind of positive feedback when I haven't had any leads to any DNA family and it has been 5 months. This kit was bought in December 2017. I feel this was a waste of money and time. I had such high expectations but got nothing but disappointment. It is hard for me to understand that out of 1019 DNA family members, there is no data base to contact relatives.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Disappointed w/ lack of country specifics

The results are much too broad with almost 99% of my heritage being British/Irish. I did Ancestry version for my father and there was much more detail.

I thought that this would exclusively be based on DNA it dosen't appear to be the case. They ask a zillion questions thru "surveys" and I believe they use the majority of that information to get the desired answers. Not that this is bad, but I thought it would be DNA analysis only. If you do purchase this, don't answer any questions until the DNA part is done, and wait for a bit of time even after that just to see unskewed answers.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Daughter did hers! Got a hit. I did mine...found half-brother didn't know was 'out there.' Amazing. We've connected and it was awesome!

I am disappointed in the report of my ancestors. It was not as advertised. You did not connect me with any relative. You included me in a group of elites and I am not.

Thank you for your feedback. Our Ancestry Composition report tells you what percent of your DNA comes from each of 31 populations worldwide. The analysis includes DNA you received from all of your ancestors, on both sides of your family. Some populations are inherently difficult to distinguish because of historical mixing, or we might not have had enough data to tell them apart.
It sounds like you may be interested in DNA Relatives. You can locate DNA Relatives under the Tools tab at the top of your screen. This feature locates other 23andMe members that match your DNA and estimates a predicted relationship based on the length, number of segments, and percentage of DNA you share.

Happy with Ancestry results, not messaging system

I am happy with the whole testing and results portion of the DNA kit. I think the messaging system needs to be worked on because when you try to contact someone you are related to no one ever responds back. Also, when you agree to share your ancestry reports with a close relative (at the bottom of the page), you don't actually get to see a whole lot of information, which I think defeats the purpose of sharing.

Okay overall

I was excited to see my results however over 40% of my results do not show the related populations, so I only know 60% even after 23andme. Also I see I am native American but 23andme can't tell me which tribe or even the region besides "Mexico" which shouldn't be considered as one region. I answered 100% of research questions and unlocked the insights, but they are ok, being 23andme is using my medical information for profit, they should at least give access to traits or health for doing questions. I can do a less expensive DNA test and learn the rest of my heritage, I am disappointed 23andme didn't tease out the dna more it seems like a less than genuine effort on the company's part to research my DNA heritage.

Thank you for your feedback. Genetic genealogy services such as 23andMe cannot identify specific locations (cities, towns, or villages) or specific lineages (tribes or clans) that an individual may be descended from as this level of detail is difficult to distinguish based solely on DNA.
