For Christmas I asked Santa for a link to where my ancestors came from, instead I was reunited with my birth mother after 48 years.

My DNA results were kind of what I expected, but with a few little surprises that made me very happy. I enjoy how the results are broken down and have been researching my maternal haplogroup with excitement. Additionally, the DNA Relatives tool has been a huge plus as it has allowed me to connect to a few distant relatives that I would not have known of otherwise.
The entire experience was easy and I am very pleased with the results I received. I have recommended 23andMe to family, friends, and coworkers. Great product!

I wish that you could add relatives to the grand tree that have pasted away...no dna available. Also I wish the results were more recent, like the last 150 years.

Could be better

Contributors should have access a list of their common ancestors if at all possible. Just knowing others MAY BE second cousins without the tools to discover HOW they are possibly second or third cousins. There should be a place where one might list this or a link to their online tree. Also, what is the sense of DNA for Ancestry a bit more information in order to connect . Vety frusterating at times.

Not consistent with my knowledge of ancestors

I appreciate that there was extensive migration throughout all of Europe, but my results were highly inconsistent with what I had previously understood about my ancestors' origins. For example, BOTH of my maternal grandparents emigrated to the US from Poland, then Austria-Hungary. This is not well reflected in ancestral breakdown. My paternal grandmother was 100% Danish yet the results identified significantly less than 25% Danish. I also have a verifiable ancestor who came from Norway and his lineage is not apparent in the data. If anyone from 23 and Me can better explain it to me, I am all ears.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Thank you for your feedback. Our Ancestry Composition report assigns results based on your genetic similarity to our 31 populations worldwide. These populations refer to genetically similar groups, rather than nationalities.

Evidence of Polish ancestry would be reflected within our Eastern European reference population while evidence of Austrian ancestry would be reflected within our French/German reference population. If you do not see as much Scandinavian ancestry as you expected, this is because you more closely resembled our other reference populations genetically. Keep in mind that you randomly inherit 50% of your DNA from each of your parents. For this reason, your ancestry assignments may vary depending on which DNA segments you inherited from each parent.

I bought this 3 months ago and it was the best choice I've ever made. I was adopted out at birth and was excited to finally know after 47 years what my heritage is. Excited for me but also for my kids to know as well. In the process I found my biological family too! I've searched for them for many years with no success. I owe it all to 23 and Me for this reunion!

Site is rather limited in my surname. My once removed first cousins have never answered any notes. I don't think they even know their ancestry beyond parents who are all deceased
