23&Me is great! As a comparison, I tried another DNA company to see if I could obtain additional info from another source. I was very disappointed with the results and lack of information provided. 23 & me is easy to use, accurate and provides detailed reports. I highly recommend it!

Eye opening

Genetics and ancestry were seldom to never discussed in my family. My siblings and I were unaware of family lines beyond aunts, uncles and first cousins. My 23andme profile has filled in a lot of blanks and answered a lot of questions, not only for me but for other blood relatives. Through 23andme I have been informed of the existence of near relatives about which I knew nothing and have managed to make some contacts. That would not have been possible without 23andme.

I was blown away with my results to say the least... I was only trying to confirm the amount of native American I am and to my surprise it's zero percent I didn't see that coming from a mile away . To my surprise I'm 100 percent European and the break down of that and process of elimination I realised the man I thought was my father is not.... I must admit I felt lost and cheated out of knowing half my family. My whole life was a lie. I have always felt I didn't belong anywhere I've been so, I'm a little relieved to know that in the UK is were I belong .... I've learned the wrong history for myself both family and educational wise.

I have been completely satisfied and excited with the DNA information, what is missing is the fact that most of relatives are passed on. Also, the market for DNA testing is full, but not in conjunction with one another, results from one should automatically compare to all others. GEDmatch helps!

I found relatives!

I thought I'd try 23andme based on a friends recommendation to find out my true heritage. I was happy and surprised to find out the percentages of my DNA background. I also connected to my 1st and 2nd cousin and after a lot of communication back and forth we worked out how we were related. My Mother was adopted so we found her Father's family in Scotland. I visited them with my sisters and Mother this past summer and we were very warmly received. It was quite an experience and lovely to have a more extended family. I was glad I contacted my first 2 relatives to find this out. I have since wrote to many others mostly 3rd and 4th cousins but have not had any more replies. I hope they will some day to find out more about my background. It was a great experience for me!

Seeing the past through a sample of saliva!

Besides just being cool science, the ability to peer into the past and marvel at my ancestors' origins both boggles the mind and warms the heart! Of course, information about potential health risks was helpful, but I love the idea that my genetic markers might help shed light on other 3rd and 4th generation cousins whom I don't even know exist.
