I have had the service for about a year and love it. I was surprised at some of the findings but they were verifiable. I am especially pleased that my heritage results were updated as new population information was available.

Surprises Await You!

I had been wanting to take one of these DNA tests for the longest times, so when I had the chance, I was more than thrilled. I mostly knew my ancestry, but there were some doors that had always been locked and our family was unable to find out anything - the 23andMe DNA test really helped us and it even surprised us.
The overall process is very easy and I really do enjoy the questionnaires you are asked as you go along to help fine tune whatever processes they use to determine how traits correlate to different groups of people.
I do wish that the chromosome break down would tell you which one is from your father and which one is from your mother - although it can be made by deduction if you know your ancestry... it might be harder for some. For example, you might know that your Scandinavian DNA is from your mother - so you can easily tell which chromosome's bar is lit up the color for the right parent's ancestry.
I also wish there were more options available when connecting to other relatives... perhaps saying which chromosome's side you share... Is this person's half strand from the X or the Y or which X is it from in the case of being female. It can be rather difficult to determine which family member is from which side of your family because it doesn't really say how they are related to you other than suspected relationship and that you have half identical or whatever strands on say the 8th chromosome. Well, which one... the one from my mother or my father? Requires a lot more work on the users part to dig up ancestry and such.
Overall, this service is great and your results can come as such a surprise! I strongly recommend this!

I was a bit dis.sapointed with information, was too vague, I was hoping for more insight into where my old relatives lived and if they moved alot, more information about my DNA

Why can't we get tribal n our DNA how come its not more specific the kit an does rh- blood have anything to with survey can it b tested

Not satisfied with your ethnicity categories

The reports are informative and the relatives tool is awesome. However, the categories are too broad. I am mostly Armenian, and supposedly somewhat Georgian, which has nothing to do with Middle East. I would like to have a more detailed break down of that category. The same is equally applicable to Eastern European and Balkan categories.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Thank you for your feedback. The population labels in Ancestry Composition refer to genetically similar groups, rather than nationalities. In general, we sought to make the populations as small as possible, subject to the constraint of being able to distinguish between them. Populations may be inherently difficult to distinguish because of historical mixing, or we might not have had enough data to tell them apart.
