I found family!

Thank you 23 and me!! I did the at home dna test hoping to find out about my heritage, but I found so much more! I was notified that additional relatives had been found, I opened the email to see I had a half brother! Was not expecting that at all!! I contacted my brother and found out that while my dad was serving 2.5 years in Germany as an American GI he impregnated a German woman. My dad was shipped back to the US before the German woman realized she was pregnant, my dad passed away 16 years ago never knowing he had another child. I am thankful I was able to meet my oldest brother last weekend, he is coming to where I grew up to meet the other siblings and our children in October. Wow, I’m so blessed that I found a piece of my fathers past and got a great brother too!

With in 10 days, some new revelation struck someone and my DNA no longer looks like my own. I could see a tweek or two but this is ridiculous!!
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Thanks for your feedback. The changes you described are caused by the population update we recently released. Your Ancestry Composition results were recalculated in order to receive this upgrade, so some changes are expected. Your results reflect the most up-to-date results available at this time.
We are constantly evaluating the performance of Ancestry Composition and when issues are identified that can lead to improvements in accuracy, those will be applied for all customers. Ancestry Composition is a living analysis, and customers should expect the results to continue to update as we make changes to the feature.

Without a shadow of a doubt!

I was a foster child growing up I had known my fathers family but was unsure if he was truly my father for my mother was very young when she gave birth to me.I am 59 years old now and the last time i saw my mother i was only 8 years old . Unforeseen tragic circumstances tore our family apart. I saw no resemblance to my father for he was fair skinned,blue eyes and light colored hair where i was completely the opposite, Thanks to 23 and Me i now know he indeed is my father for a 3rd cousin on my fathers side whom i have known shares some of my DNA shown on 23 and Me DNA relatives . Thank you for making me feel complete and answering a life long question ! Sincerely, Adelaide(Adele)

Glad to know my DNA now helps researchers

Our son gave us our 23andme kits in 2012 so we got health information no longer available. We found it interesting and helpful. I also got confirmation that I have Native American ancesters several generations ago.

My Experience with DNA.

I was given a certain prognosis of a potential disease early on in my printout. Now when I look for that information, it is no longer visible. This is frustrating. Also, recently, a relative got the results back from their DNA kit and this relative is very close ... however, the results do not show up as this person is a close relative.

MY self , Wife, Daughter and son in law have taken the 23 and me DNA test, However NONE of them turn up being related to me? Whats the deal?

Thank you for your feedback. If you are not seeing your relative in your DNA Relatives list, they likely aren't opted in to the DNA Relatives feature within their account. Keep in mind that DNA Relatives is an optional feature that we make available to members who have been genotyped by 23andMe. In order to view a match within DNA Relatives, both parties need to participate in this feature. Please ensure that your relative has selected to participate in DNA Relatives.

Interesting but more questions keep arising

It is very interesting how things can be discovered via DNA. I keep wondering about the Neanderthal and where it comes in. My tests say very little chance of red hair, but I have strawberry blond hair, which is half blond/half red tone. I'm also 71 years old and it has never changed, I have no gray and I wonder if this is due to the Neanderthal, as the testing here as 23 and Me says I have more Neanderthal than 99% of their customers. Feedback from others could be interesting. I've bought it for 3 relatives and find it interesting as well.

A tool whose time had come for discovery

Tested back in the beginning stages. Checked to see if needed to update to newest platform by paying again and was told 'No' it would be done by the site shortly - still waiting two years later.
Otherwise about the same as any other site where too many people test but the reason escapes real understanding as very few respond, communicate or otherwise participate with/for the serious genealogists which is a large part of the intended process of genealogy DNA testing.
Still recommend testing so this service will continue to be available and move forward with technological progress through time.
