I have a niece that called me tonight and asked me questions about my DNA .
I was hopping I could find an email with an offer for 50% off that I could give her and her husband but no luck.

Reconnected with the son I gave up 50 years ago!

Thanks to 23andme, my niece posted her DNA and the son I gave up for adoption connected with her and we now have a beautiful ongoing relationship. It wouldn't have happened without this program!

I bought a kit for myself and my boyfriend. It arrived in the mail pretty quick and was super easy to register and to complete and return. Our results came back in about 4 weeks. We enjoyed the experience so much that my brother decided to try it out.

Bad for south asians

The ancestry service is a total waste of money if you're not white.
Since I come from a country that is home to dozens of different ethnic groups, I was hoping 23andme could tell me about my ethnic history. But the 23andme report identified my heritage as broadly from a continent--not even a country breakdown! Useless.

Thank you for your feedback. Our Ancestry Composition report assigns results based on your genetic similarity to our 31 populations worldwide. These populations refer to genetically similar groups, rather than nationalities.
In general, we sought to make the populations as small as possible, subject to the constraint of being able to distinguish between them. Populations may be inherently difficult to distinguish because of historical mixing, or we might not have had enough data to tell them apart.

Your Ancestry Composition is a living analysis. Using thousands of reference individuals, we are able to continually evolve and improve your results. As we update our reference data, it will not be uncommon to see slight shifts in your Ancestry Composition.

I bought 3 ancestry kits during 23andMe's Thanksgiving sale, one for myself and each of my parents and am very satisfied with my purchase. Although I wasn't surprised by the results, I love finally knowing for sure what my ethnicity is. Testing my parents improved the accuracy of my results because of a process called "genetic phasing", which, to my knowledge, other DNA testing companies do not provide.
I would definitely recommend 23andMe's ancestry DNA tests to friends and family.

Overwhelmed

I knew I was adopted at an early age, I was told I had other siblings from my birth mother. After I received my results i found not only my birth mothers children (my siblings but I also discovered my birth Fathers children. I have 10 new siblings. I have discovered that these 2 separate families (mothers children and fathers children) grew up together and did not know that they had a sibling (me) out there. They have remained friends for over 50 years and they have now found out they have a sibling in common. I plan on meeting my family soon. I love 23andMe!
