I only thought I knew where my family came from! I had no idea! You see those commercials for DNA ancestry and you think, "I know mine. I don't need a DNA test to tell me." You know what you have been told. You have no idea what actual nationalities and their percentages you are actually made up of or how close in your family trees those other nationalities are! I went from thinking I was white to finding out I was not at all "white". Then my maternal line dates back to King Richard III of England and an ancient Irish King on my paternal side. This also connected me to cousins from all over that I never knew existed. My research on all branches of my family tree has been aided by the results of my 23andme DNA! Worth every penny I paid.

I am adopted with no idea about my life, past, or risks. This not only told me what my ancestry is but also answered questions I had about my health risks and what I might be carrying. After my son was born with double cleft lip and palate, I was told this was the result of "random genetics" which felt like no answer at all. Though that risk wasn't in the testing, I am happy now to know what could be. If you're not adopted you may not understand that not knowing some of these things makes you feel uncertain, like there is a hole. But now I have answers I have wanted all my life, and every day I'm getting emails updating me with more answers to questions I never knew I had. I love it. Will always recommend it, and definitely going to do another test in the future for my son.

I was disappointed with how broad the results were. I expected more specific answers re the COUNTRY of origin. Similar to what Ancestry does.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Finding out about my maternal line.

I was very curious as to where and what my Maternal line DNA is and where we come from on my grandmother's side. My grandmother was adopted, so we never really knew anything about her back ground of ethnic make up. We were always told she was Native American from her mother and did not know anything about her dad. So needless to say this has definitely been an eye opening experience. I am still praying I will meet somebody on here that is related to me through my grandmother. There are two men who are very much related to me, but sadly never answer my request. It is frustrating not really knowing who you are. I wish my grandmother were alive so she would have had the opportunity to know where she's from and it's awesome she is from, The Berber people of North Africa, The Basque in Spain, we are related to Yu Hong, and the Cheddar man of England. I think deep down inside of all of us, there is a need to know who are we. Where did we come from. I wish my dad were alive so I could know where all his family originated from as well. Know lots of stories and theories but would have liked to have some DNA proof. So it's been interesting and has me and mom rubbing our heads a little. But that's the beauty of DNA. Also many years ago, 3 of my cousins were diagnosed with hemophilia and I had to be tested and my son, because the mother carries this to her children. I remember the doctor asking me were we Scandinavian and I was like no. Because I didn't know. But now I do know we are, and was wondering why did he ask me that question. I have been very happy with the results and it's awesome.

Have purchased two kits. Your web site is a trial, though. Glacial response! Can someone look into why the site is so slow? I'm also not convinced that messages are always getting through to people with whom I'd like to share information. But, I rarely visit the page because it is so sloooow.
