Love it!

I have Ancestry and 23 and me, and I've done a bit of work on my own by getting records from the original sources, they all work but I find 23 and me the most interesting. I love the original health information platform but the newer format is still interesting.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Beyond Fascinating

I had longed to know what my 23andme report would uncover for a long time. It was full of surprises, interesting discoveries, and a connection to a 2nd cousin I hadn't seen since 1968. What a ride! I truly look forward to more relatives having their DNA tested. Only wish my father was alive so I could get that part of "my story."

Difficult to Navigate and Understand

I purchased the DNA kit for mother's day. I finally convinced my mother and 2 of my brothers to also purchase. My brothers are twins and one came back as 5% scandinavian and the other 44%! And no German ancestry. That's tough to believe given the fact my grandparents came from Germany, we are all German...so what happened it? But that's not even the worst part. My mother and I actually show up as related, but my brothers are nowhere to be found! I mean no where! Not as my brothers, cousins, or even distant relatives. I do realize this type of research is in its infancy. However, the website is of very little use whatsoever. No explanation and the tutorials are poor at best. I really would like to get access to information regarding my immediate family. This is frustrating. We are thinking we should do other DNA websites for comparisons. But now my brothers are convinced this is all garbage.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Thank you for your feedback. If you are not seeing your relative in your DNA Relatives list, they likely aren't opted in to the DNA Relatives feature within their account. Keep in mind that DNA Relatives is an optional feature that we make available to customers who have been genotyped by 23andMe. In order to view a match within DNA Relatives, both parties need to participate in this feature. Please ensure that your relative has selected to participate in DNA Relatives.

Interesting, Useful, and Constantly Improving

I am quite impressed with the 23andMe service. In particular, I really like how new features and new reports are added frequently, making this a service I can see myself using often going forward. The reports are fascinating, though I--with no background in genetics--sometimes am confused about comparing the results, in particular as they relate to my immediate family members. More explanations would be helpful in terms of understanding compared genetics, but I am generally very satisfied with this product.

Finding my Family

I was adopted at birth, and have very little information on my birth family. I have tried to locate them through online heritage sites but with little success as I have such limited information. 23 and Me has identified probable family members to me, whom I have contacted, and we're corresponding. I am very excited to have information on not only my birth mom and dad, but also half-siblings and aunts and uncles. I have just ordered a kit for my son so he can share in my discoveries. Thank you so much. It is so gratifying to finally know where I came from and form bonds with family. It's amazing.

Very Interesting Research and Data

I got my results about a month ago and found my cousin who had be adopted out and we are going to meet soon. It was great to find out that I don't have any of the things that they tested for healthwise. I also found out I am English/Irish which we totally didn't know-even though we had done quite a bit of ancestry research. It has been fun and exciting to learn more about our family and to share info with my recently discovered cousin. Be sure to watch the tutorials to get the most out of the data.
