I'm very happy that I completed a DNA test on me and my Daughter. I really wish the maternal/paternal was broken down into groups. I am pleased overall.

Thank you for your feedback. One of the features included in our service is called DNA Relatives. DNA Relatives locates other 23andMe members that match your DNA. This feature estimates a predicted relationship and range using the length and number of segments and percent DNA shared. When two people share identical segments of DNA, this indicates that they share a recent common ancestor.
Using DNA Relatives, you can message your matches to learn more about your own family history.
Keep in mind that the number of relatives will vary for each person and will grow over time as more people join 23andMe.

Actually found a lost relative.

My girlfriend and I each picked up one of these kids about two months back and did the test together. It took about four weeks to get the results back and I'm very glad I did. Not only did it answer a few questions that I always had and had the surprising result of me being 100% European, the DNA relative tool actually helped my family discover a member of our family who was unknown to us. An uncle who had had a child almost 50 years ago who was given up for adoption immediately. Thanks to the site he was able to contact my family and discover more about himself. Very very good tool, thanks

After my sons did the testing my results got changed in a way that one of my son has now an ancestry which I had before but after the change in my report got lost. The other son has an ancestry which looks different. Only the haplogroups seem to be ok.

Thank you for your feedback. When a child is phased against a parent, this updates the child's results to a higher resolution than if the parent were to be phased against a child. Sometimes this results in small discrepancies like those that you have noted.
You can learn more about this feature in our Ancestry Composition guide: https://www.23andme.com/ancestry_composition_guide/

I have found some family traits I did not know about. I thought I would get more data/information on my mother and father's traits, family and DNA factors, such as identifying family lines or connections

Appears To Be Accurate on Genetic Markers

I have had some genetic testing by a geneticist due to an extremely rare tremor disorder that I have, and 23andMe has accurately detected two of the markers that I know I have and that they test for. I have a great interest in my ancestry and am glad I submitted by DNA and have also gotten 2 of my siblings to participate too. I'm anxiously awaiting my brother's results to get info from my father's side. I plan to purchase the health info in the future.

Mixed feelings

I recently received my results and love the breakdown I was given, and enjoyed seeing some of the different features offered. On the other hand, I have been disappointed by the DNA relatives feature. It seems to be a wasteland of names/info that nobody actively uses or follows up on. Although I know that 23andMe's database is smaller than some other companies, and doesn't necessarily promote the ancestry side of DNA testing, I was still disappointed with the total lack of ancestry options. The genetic portion and finding out more about my genetic background was great though.

The Throwback Kid

Since I was a teen, about 4 times in my life, I've switched from English to Spanish if I was extremely upset or tired. I never knew why, since I was from Indiana & Los Angeles. When I found out my mom's haplotype was in Spain, for many years. I think I understand my Throwback genes' reactions.
