An Unexpected Twist

I was adopted into my family, so I had no idea what my genetic history was. I originally submitted a test kit to find out if I had any potential genetic problems and to see if I was right about my background. Turns out I mostly was, but that wasn't the twist.
The twist happened last week. Another 23andMe user shared his test results with me; turns out we're probable half brothers. Over the weekend we shared a bit of information and now I've got a pretty good idea of who my biological father was, and he (and his family) were surprised by my existence. And the information I've found out so far has gone a long way to help me look up my biological mother.
I've always known who I am, but 23andMe has helped me find out where I came from. And I've got more exploring to do....

Excellent for family genealogists

The health features are very nice, but I've benefitted the most from the ancestry reports. I've looked for ancestors from various regions for the past 20+ years and hadn't been able to find the ones I was looking for. My ancestry report confirmed that I have no Native American history (which I had strongly begun to suspect) and that I do have Jewish ancestry (which I'd already determined). I could have saved a lot of time if I had this product 20 years ago.

My Life Changer...

It's been almost a month since I've received my 23andme results and I still can't believe the change it has had on my life. Ok, where do I begin, I have never experienced the same symptoms that lactose intolerant people normally have so it never occured to me or the several Dermatologist I've visited that that I might be suffering from the same issue of missing the Lactase enzyme. So for the last ten years when my skin would break out with severe itching and fungus type of skin reactions I always attributed it to eating sugary drinks or foods that led to over growth of yeast in my gut. For this reason for the last 10 years I've been on a steady flow of supplementing my diets with probiotics and all kinds of herbal supplements. Everything changed though a month ago, when I learned that both my parents passed me the G variant type and proved that I don't produce the lactase enzyme which helps converts the sugar found in diary. For the last 3 weeks I take my lactase pills with my coffee or any other dairy product and the results are like nothing I have experienced. It works!! I can drink my Coffee with sugar or without and my skin doesn't freak out. Its really hard to put into words what its like to try many different things and achieve a failed result, i thank my wife for purchasing this product as a Christmas gift last year and I can't wait to purchase this back for her and others in my family. I AM TRULY GRATEFUL TO 23andme AND THE PEOPLE BEHIND THIS WORK, IT HAS BEEN MY LIFECHANGER!!

Thanks to 23andMe forewarning me that I was likely to get macular degeneration I was so much more prepared when the ophthalmologist eventually told me that I have it.

This is a great product/service! I have Parkinson’s and am using it through the Michael J Fox Foundation’s Fox Trial Finder. Through them I am part of a study and I have received so much great info. I have even found actual relatives that I didn’t know. Highly recommended!

The product 23 and me was excellent for finding out about my heritage and health profile. I dd not realize that it could change. My ancestry timeline has changed. I have a strong connection to a former Queen of France. That is amazing to me.

Found my family!

I bought 23 and Me DNA to find out any health issues that I already knew about from my mothers family history. I did get that information, but I got so much more. I was adopted and knew nothing about my fathers side of the family. With 23 and Me I found relatives I had no idea existed. My family has grown from being an only child to a person with eight sibling. So glad I did this! There just are no words to express my happiness.

Inaccurate and Lacks Method For Providing Feedback

My genetic sample returned the result that variants were not detected for Autosomal Recessive Polycystic Kidney Disease yet both my brother and I have the disease. I wanted to report that fact to 23andMe but there is no mechanism for doing so.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
