Life changing experience!

I was adopted at birth so I was looking for answers as to what my heritage was.
But ended up finding my half sister that I did not know existed! You should change the name to 23 and me (and maybe you) thank you!!!!

Far superior to "Family Tree DNA"

I bought a full compliment of Family Tree DNA for my wife and I. The results were not at all user friendly and I gave up trying to understand them. Because I was still curious, I then ordered the 23andMe package for my wife and I and found them to be exactly what I was looking for. Good information, well presented and easily understood.

Adopted child's health and ancestory discovered.

This test was for our 3 year old boy adopted from foster care for whom we did not have any family history. The results of the health survey was refreshing and relieving and very detailed. The physical description from the DNA was dead-on exact. The ancestry gave us more than we imagined to discover for both his birth mother and unknown father's history. We have since pinpointed where his ancestors are from and how they arrived here. Also there are possible 4-5th cousins who we have not contacted. Our son has much information to peruse when he is old enough to understand.

Good for Ancestry, hard to decipher for other uses

I got a kit as part of a credentialing class in Pharmacogenomics. I was excited to have the full panel done. The ancestry part was very interesting, but hard to decipher for usable medical information. I wish they had levels of reports that could be ordered. It would be a shame to get this done and not use the results to their full potential.

Too dumbed down, website is almost un-navigable.

The revisions made a year or two ago were no improvement, and it's sad that the site decision-makers didn't see that, and still don't! Because it's so counter-intuitive, t's almost impossible to find any information twice without spending inordinate amounts of time. The information provided is skimpy and diluted with dumbed-down information and too many icons, not enough text. I used to love 23andme, and raved about it when I first signed on, I never recommend it anymore, to anyone, and in fact, tell them about the poor design and dilute information. You could do so much better!
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
