Learning about myself

This was a Christmas present for my husband and I, a wonderful gift. It let me see my genetic makeup. Being American, it's sometimes not easy to track lineage. A lot of my families records are lost. It's spurred a lot of discussion and family lineage and also about the importance of scientific research. My husband and I are so happy we did this.

Nothing too earth shattering

Other than confirming my ancestry I did not learn anything I did not already know---brown hair, brown eyes, etc. As an adoptee, I did not find any connections to possible relatives.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Thank you for your feedback. As an adoptee, 23andMe can give you a unique glimpse into your genetic legacy. Our DNA Relatives tool locates other 23andMe members that match your DNA. Our Ancestry Composition feature assigns ancestry percentages based on your genetic similarity to our 31 reference populations. Since this feature analyzes your autosomal DNA which you inherited in equal parts from both of your parents, it will reflect both your maternal and paternal ancestry.

Thank you for your feedback. Our Ancestry Composition report tells you what percent of your DNA comes from each of 31 populations worldwide. The analysis includes DNA you received from all of your ancestors, on both sides of your family. Some populations are inherently difficult to distinguish because of historical mixing, or we might not have had enough data to tell them apart.

Great experience!

I really loved getting and absorbing the results of my DNA test. I found out some very interesting facts that confirmed what I had heard about our family line. Thank you 23andMe! Two of my male family members could not get results from the saliva test. Apparently, some other people have had this happen to them too. I wish that 23andMe would add a buccal (cheek) swab test kit as an alternative for customers who have the same issue.
