Received this for a Christmas gift.... quite coincidentally and unknowingly, I had given the same kit to my wife for Christmas. We've thoroughly enjoyed comparing notes with each other and our children who'd already got results

My son and I have done our DNA and it is so amazing, I want more of my family to do their DNA. The information 23andme give you just keeps amazing me when I find new areas like finding other family members on Sharing, I could just keep going on and on, but I'll spare everyone.

Totally Fun....but gimmicky

I was very excited about this experience and love answering all the questions to further advance the research. I'm neutral in recommending 23&me simply because as a medical researcher I'm aware that there is so much more you could've told me with statistical significance but was omitted, likely due to regulations. The information I did receive seems gimmicky, rather silly and in my case things like my lactose tolerance, hair color and dimples are inaccurate so obviously I then question the rest. I wonder if it's as statistically accurate as say the breeder DNA tests you get for your pets at the vet. I'd like to know things such as if I have the alcoholic or breast cancer gene, if I'm prone to aneurysms or if I'm treatment resistant when it comes to certain medications. I'd like to know my odds at getting cancer or Alzheimer's or dimentia, My uncle's 23&me from a few years ago gave him that information but mine did not. I'm also torn because I do want more people, particularly family members to try 23&me because then my information becomes more accurate. So my score remains a 5 until future reports come out.

Thank you for your feedback. We do not currently offer reports on hereditary risks for diseases like cancer and other serious health risks.

The 23andMe Health + Ancestry Service provides both health and ancestry information in a single service for a single price and is the first and only genetic service available directly to you that includes reports that meet FDA standards. You receive 65+ personalized genetic reports to help you understand what your DNA says about your health, traits and ancestry.

You can preview a full list of available reports here: https://www.23andme.com/dna-health-ancestry/

We will continue to work with the FDA to seek additional clearances for our product. However we are not able to speculate about changes to reports, or what may be available in the future, given our dialogue with the FDA is ongoing.

The results were so general I learned nothing about my past. I'm sorry I paid for this piece of junk!

Thank you for your feedback. The 23andMe Health + Ancestry Service is the first and only genetic service available directly to you that includes reports that meet FDA standards. You now are able to receive 65+ reports on health, traits and ancestry instead of exclusively ancestry reports.

Keep in mind that each health, trait and wellness report includes a Scientific Details tab that includes more detailed information.

We also have several tutorials and FAQs listed in our Help Center: https://customercare.23andme.com/

Thank you for your feedback. Your results are a living analysis. Using thousands of reference individuals we are able to continually evolve and improve your results. As we update our reference data, it will not be uncommon to see slight shifts in your results over time.

You can read about the population selection process in more detail in the corresponding section of the Ancestry Composition Guide:

Misleading about what you can learn

They don't give you info on health genes that you would care about knowing, no breast cancer or Alzheimer's, only obscure rare diseases and it is not specific about ancestry, a waste of money

Thank you for your feedback. The population labels in Ancestry Composition refer to genetically similar groups, rather than nationalities. In general, we sought to make the populations as small as possible, subject to the constraint of being able to distinguish between them. Populations may be inherently difficult to distinguish because of historical mixing, or we might not have had enough data to tell them apart.

You can read about the population selection process in more detail in the corresponding section of the Ancestry Composition Guide:
https://www.23andme.com/ancestry_composition_guide/

We are working hard to be able to add reports on genetic risk for various health conditions. At this time, we only provide the following reports: https://www.23andme.com/dna-health-ancestry/

23andMe will continue to seek FDA authorization to offer new reports.

I was adopted from Luxembourg in 1964 had no interest in trying to find information until now in my fifties and unfortunately the only people who knew the truth are all deceased now. This test confirmed what I was told as a child about my bloodline. Informative and interesting and definitely gave me affirmation.

I thought I knew everything about my Ancestry, based on what my parents had told me. Boy was I wrong! Well, half the family was wrong as to their origin. I was brought up being told I was 1/2 Cherokee. We were even treated as such in NC. And to find out that part of the family is Irish is hilarious. I knew my mother's side was Irish, but I didn't expect that most of my genome reads Irish with some British. Fascinating!
