So glad I did this.

We decided to do this for Christmas. I figured it would take a while to receive the kit and more time for the analysis to get back to us, given that it was Christmas and mail is generally slow. But the kit arrived quickly and the results were ready in a couple of weeks. Collecting the sample was easy enough, everything is provided for mailing it back, and instructions are clear. We didn't learn anything earth-shattering but had fun compairing the DNA predicted characteristics (eye color, for example) with the reality. Hoping that as new characteristics are added to the report for new samples, we will also receive updated results.

I have been curious about my genetic makeup for years and now I have all the answers I was looking for.
For the people who are just beginning their 23andMe journey, there is a ton of information on what you are about to lean about yourself on the site. Just click every link and hover over pictures, etc. The knowledge you have at your fingertips is almost unending.

My family always said we had Native American in our bloodline. Turns out that wasn't true. I am more Irish than I thought. Very interesting to get the results.

When I was young I heard about my ancestors and where they originated. The results from my sample proved what they told me was true. Another sibling used a different company and hers were extremely vague. Very pleased.

I knew about the background of a number of my ancestors, but was surprised to learn I have some, albeit small (1.2%) native American and some north African in my heritage. The Neanderthal information was fascinating. Thank you!

I got this as a Christmas present and it is the best present I have ever had. Yes he might know where you come from so you don't need one of these but if you're into your heritage and understanding your bloodline then try it it might surprise you.
