Glad I did this but with one exception

With one basic sample price you get your Ancestry, mtDNA, and Y-DNA plus a curious but barely relevant Neanderthal report (yes it can be done!)
You can download complete DNA for all of your Chromosomes (except for a few bits here and there) and find out who matches you and where on the Chromosome.
The genealogical features are a little too basic but you can upload the total file (GEDCOM) to any number of providers such as FTDNA and MyHeritage as well GEDMatch.
2. Sharing all your common data with a potential family member (usually a cousin) can be a little quirky. You both have to be in Open Sharing to see all of each other's stuff. 23andme does not make getting there very easy. Using customer service should be a last resort.

Despite the two warts, this service is a great value. 23andme just completed an upgrade; hopefully they are listening to their customers. They seem to be trying.

Wellness report was not what I expected.

The wellness report was sub-par. The ancestry report was good .

Thank you for your feedback. The 23andMe Health + Ancestry Service is the first and only genetic service available directly to you that includes reports that meet FDA standards. You now are able to receive 65+ reports on health, traits and ancestry instead of exclusively ancestry reports.
Keep in mind that each health, trait and wellness report includes a Scientific Details tab that includes more detailed information.

I have lost most of my family senior members,and whoever I have asked were very vague,they thought Europe?Native Anerican? This product helped us to get direction so we know where to begin, the report cleared up a lot of mysteries for us,Thanks!!

Not as interesting as I'd thought

Many of the extras were wrong like if I prefer salty food over sweet. The areas of the world I come from were spot on but since I already knew that for the most part, I was hoping for some additional information. It's great that they test you for certain diseases though so that was a plus.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

While many traits are highly influenced by genetics, there are other non-genetic factors that affect the expression of certain traits.

Don't waste your money on the health portion! The ancestry part is OK.
