I found out great information

I was able to find close cousins I never knew existed and hear wonderful family stories that would have been lost to me forever without 23 and Me. I am simply amazed! I even helped an 82 year old cousin, who I had never known, and who had been adopted, find her birth family including a sister!

I received 23andme as a gift. I immediately completed all information, and test questions, and about 2-3 months later I had my results. I enjoy reading, and re-reading my results, and I have recommended this to many friends and family.

Don't expect profound accuracy.

I am still happy I did the 23 & me genetic testing. However, the characteristics were way off. From skin tone, to freckles, dimples, cleft chin. It was all wrong. Those results make it hard for me to trust the other "results".

Screwed up My Paternal Haplogroup

My son convinced my wife and me to submit our DNA to 23andMe for analysis. In general, we are impressed with the reports we received back from 23andMe; however, despite the fact that 23andMe reports my son as 47% related to me, it Assigned him to a different paternal haplogroup from me.
Me: R-Z346.
My son: R-L48.
That was disconcerting, so I checked my one first cousin in 23andMe, who happens to be the son of my father’s brother, sharing my paternal grandfather with me. Lo, he’s assigned to R-L48, too!
What gives? What else is inaccurate?

Wonderful tool to find lost relatives

So worth it found my biological sister that I have been looking for my entire adult life. If you are adopted or looking for a long lost relative this is the place to go

Very vague information

I expected a much more clarified report. I found the report to be very basic. The commercials indicate the results pinpoint areas of origin, but the information is very vague. To say my genetics originate in "eastern Europe" tells me nothing at all, really. I found out no more with this test than I have with simple ancestry and geneology searches. In fact, it actually contradicts some of the factual ancestry I know of my family. It provided more questions than answers.

I was tracing my family and ran into sloppy hand writing and gave up for years. I had heard the commercials and decided to let them do the work. When i received the results, I was immediately contacted by someone that was my cousin. She had been adopted and was looking for her birth parents which turns out was my uncle. I discovered I had a different father than the one that raised me and tracked down my family and established a relationship. i discovered I was not German 1 bit but was Sicilian. I called my buddies from the Navy and told them I was Italian. one of the guys said "We TOLD you. I was too late to meet my father because he had passed away but we were both wrestlers, entrepreneurs and served in the Navy. I can't say it enough. Get the kit because you could have someone out there looking for you and if you wait, you might miss them.
