I wanted to find out about my ancestry because I'm adopted. I knew about my biological mother side but not my fathers side and this helped me find out my other half

I have been wanting to do my dna testing for a long time. I finally sent for my 23andme kit as a birthday gift to myself. I am so glad I did! I discovered that I am so much more than British/Irish and Italian. I have many more nationalities from Europe that make up my dna. I also have made contact with 2 dna relatives and I have so much more to discover!

Over symplifed

I understand that I'm Anglo, family history says English mainly. So the DNA should be predictable. But unless there is some specific DNA marker for Scandinavian please don't through it in the mix because of averages. Now the American Indian is interesting. That would be cool to know approximately what generation. I suspect it's the French Canadians, but since one side of the family goes back to a male on the Mayflower it's hard to guess where that came from. Any way, just because a bunch of American's are Scandinavian doesn't mean we all are, irritating and misleading.

This has really answered some long standing questions for my family. Bought a kit for my wife, and she had some concerns about doing the test until I received my results- now she is jealous and sending in her kit for analysis

Thank you for your feedback. The 23andMe Health + Ancestry Service is the first and only genetic service available directly to you that includes reports that meet FDA standards. You now are able to receive 75+ reports on health, traits and ancestry instead of exclusively ancestry reports.

A Bit Disappointed

I was disappointed to know that you were unable to give the paternal assignment in the Haplogroups report or that you were unable to distinguish between what DNA was from your maternal or paternal side of the family. This was important to me since my parents were from such diverse backgrounds.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
