Ties to the past

The information I received from 23andMe coordinated well with family lore about where we came from, and who came when. I was particularly interested in ancestry related to my Sicilian grandmother because Sicily has been conquered by so many empires/countries through the centuries. And no surprise, that part is fascinating. From north Africa and the middle east, to Italy and Iberia, my ancestry is a history lesson of the region. The yen to go to Sicily (complete with streets bearing family names - thanks, Google Earth) is very strong! Thank you, 23andMe!

Have made two connections

DNA matching has helped us connect to a 'most probably' relative, who had been adopted, and give her information on her "most probably' birth mother.
Another relative connection is a 'most definitely' in our tree, and we've been able to help her fill in some blanks on her ancestry chart.
Never thought we'd find any true connections, but have been pleasantly surprised.
Appreciate the secure communications we can have, through the 23andMe site, during the 'introduction' to possible relatives....until you're ready to share personal information.

The unexpected self

The most interesting fact about the 23andMe test was discovering that I'm not at all who I grew up thinking I was. What I believed to be my ancestral makeup ended up being simple cultural association. I am very thankful to the 23andMe community for making this discovery possible. And of course the health report is just as important and helpful in allowing me to understand what course I must take in life to maintain my physical wellbeing. Yes, I would, and have recommended this product to multiple friends and family members who have purchased it and are just as excited about it as I am. Thank you 23andMe.

A never-ending journey

One vial of spit changed the way I look at myself, and the world around me. Learning my family story from 23andMe started me on a journey of discovery that continues to this day, more than two years after getting my results. Seriously, 23andMe's Health + Ancestry service will change your life. You'll be richer for the experience.

Health, useful; Ancestry, too general

The health reports and genetic tendencies for my genome is useful and interesting. At my age, however, any genetic causes have pretty much manifested themselves.
Unfortunately, the ancestry data has become clouded. When I first enrolled, the genetic distributions were based on the year 1500 (because after that, people moved everywhere, including mine). The reports bore out my family history in anecdotes and legends, and I learned even more than I expected. Now, I am lumped into generic categories that are useless.

Survey questions

I love being able to participate in the research questions. I believe the best questions are the ones that are like little tests at the same time. They’re entertaining and I also really feel like I’m helping to understand myself a little better/giving the best answers because they are all in real time. No having to think back to what I may have done/eaten/how much I’ve slept and give a guesstimate. These answers are in real time. Regardless love this site and love being able to learn more about myself and help to contribute to science with nothing more than my dna. Thank you!

great investment

23 and Me has connected me to relatives I didn't know I had. I also have been able to be instrumental in helping others find people they have been looking for. . it also given me some insight into some health issues I should watch for. I continue to get updates as more relatives join. .
I also love to hear on the news, that cold cases are being solved because of DNA matches.

Thought I was Native American

Was always told my great grandmother was native American but after completing the 23&Me kit, I found out that I was 2.5% African American.
