A never-ending journey

One vial of spit changed the way I look at myself, and the world around me. Learning my family story from 23andMe started me on a journey of discovery that continues to this day, more than two years after getting my results. Seriously, 23andMe's Health + Ancestry service will change your life. You'll be richer for the experience.

Health, useful; Ancestry, too general

The health reports and genetic tendencies for my genome is useful and interesting. At my age, however, any genetic causes have pretty much manifested themselves.
Unfortunately, the ancestry data has become clouded. When I first enrolled, the genetic distributions were based on the year 1500 (because after that, people moved everywhere, including mine). The reports bore out my family history in anecdotes and legends, and I learned even more than I expected. Now, I am lumped into generic categories that are useless.

Survey questions

I love being able to participate in the research questions. I believe the best questions are the ones that are like little tests at the same time. They’re entertaining and I also really feel like I’m helping to understand myself a little better/giving the best answers because they are all in real time. No having to think back to what I may have done/eaten/how much I’ve slept and give a guesstimate. These answers are in real time. Regardless love this site and love being able to learn more about myself and help to contribute to science with nothing more than my dna. Thank you!

great investment

23 and Me has connected me to relatives I didn't know I had. I also have been able to be instrumental in helping others find people they have been looking for. . it also given me some insight into some health issues I should watch for. I continue to get updates as more relatives join. .
I also love to hear on the news, that cold cases are being solved because of DNA matches.

Thought I was Native American

Was always told my great grandmother was native American but after completing the 23&Me kit, I found out that I was 2.5% African American.

I am particularly impressed with how well 23andMe educates its customers. The information is easily accessible and helps you understand how your sample is processed, how your results were calculated, AND what they mean. The answers to your questions are at your fingertips, and if you need help all you have to do is ask!

I've been on 23&me for a couple of years now. I really like the notifications I receive about new relatives discovered.
I also feel their predictions are very much on point with the accuracy of details when new information comes in.
The last thing I really like is that 23&Me sends me all sorts of reports when they become available; always keeping me updated on developments.

I’m adopted and found my family

I am adopted and had searched for my mother since 1984. The state of Illinois even did a complete worldwide search for me. They told me everything on my birth certificate have been a lie and the only thing they believed was left to do was DNA testing. It seemed extremely foreign to me, but through the insistence of my children, I did the 23 and me test. It has been a long search but because of this website I was able to discover that my father had been a priest and my mother had been a nun. It’s a very long story with a lot of twists and turns, but if it hadn’t been for 23 and me I would never have been able to discover what I did.
