Some huge surprises!

My biggest surprise discovery so far is that my mother actually COULD keep a secret! We've discovered a half-brother and half-sister we've lived decades without knowing anything about, and now our family is a LOT bigger and a lot closer, too!

Amazing Service!

I had always wanted to delve deeper into my past, and 23andMe has really proven that anyone's past is more detailed than they may think! I have met some amazing people, who share ancestors with me, through this service. I have also been able to explore more of what makes me who I am, in genetic terms and health terms. It has really allowed me to get to know the world beyond my typical scope, and I cannot wait to see what comes next! Being able to see the company grow has been quite the experience.

this is a great tool but be prepared to find out things you may or may not want to find out, like your dad is not your dad and you are actually one of many children of a fertility doctor - what a roller coaster ride

Sharing my DNA with the World...

I have enjoyed receiving this as a gift (at my request) and learning about how my DNA affects my health and vice versa, as well as learning about my ancestry along the way. I am hopeful that others are contributing - which may help researchers understand what traits may affect health & disease for generations of the future.

I found my birth father with closed adoption!

I had little to nothing to go on with the information of my birth. My adoption is closed and the laws in the state of Georgia is sad. My adoptive mother passed 8 months ago and to cheer myself up I bought a 23 and me kit for my 35th bday. What a birthday gift investment. A 1st cousin popped up on my DNA relatives and she contacted me. I then reached out to my now Father and Aunt. I bought them both a 23 and me kit. When the results came in, it showed I found my birth father who had no idea I was even born or existed. The health component helped me out cause I never knew what I carried or could be at risk for. It gave me a sense of ease and now instead of being an orphan with both my adoptive parents passed; I now have my father and his family. Thank you 23 and me with out this test, I wouldn't have found them! Adoptee's please don't pass this up, you never know.

Health vs. Ancestry

Several months ago I purchased a DNA analysis from 23andme.com.
The ancestry side of things was very interesting and confirmed a lot of my beliefs about my ancestry, and debunked one major belief my mother and uncle had stated was in my tree (and wasn't). The major value for present, though, was the health analysis. I had some inheritance tendencies on my father's side in regard to health that were proven to be in my DNA. Also a marker for celiac disease possibilities popped up, confirming my own private evaluation that I tended to have several of the symptoms of that disease. Going forward, all this allows me to adapt my lifestyle to health revelations from 23andme, to take steps to improve my health from what I now know.

What has stumped doctors for over a decade...

23&me provided what my doctors couldn't for over a decade. Hospitalized for 10 ten days with no answers...pain unbearable at times. I carry 1 of the 2 genes for Celiac...diet change, no more pain! Thank you 23&me!

I feel more complete as a person

I lost my dad when I was just 3 years old, and my family rarely spoke of him, therefore, growing up I always felt a huge part of my identity missing, so I was more than excited to do the testing so I could fill in the blanks of my ancestral identity. The results were surprising and telling. I had no idea I had any Scandinavian DNA but I do, and I was able to learn how my shortness is linked to specific genetics! What I love about this company in particular is that they will continuously keep you updated with the latest information from their research. If they test for something new, they update your profile with any information pertaining to it. How cool!! I can rest assured now that MANY questions I had been asking all my life, have finally been answered.
