Magical journey of self discovery

I chose to use 23&me because my friend had learned so much about herself and her family by using this service. Since I was adopted, I was excited to see if any biological relatives could be found and I wanted health information. The service was informative on both counts. The website is easy to navigate, the reports are clearly presented and the opportunity to go deeper is always available. I like the chromosome painting with the ability to highlight ethnicity segments. The DNA relative tool is awesome; I wish it was available in the iPhone app, too. In my case, the DNA test led to the discovery of my whole biological family and the story of my birth. Now I am exploring family trees, making new connections, and getting a broad understanding of my roots.
The data that 23&me provides has led me to delve deeper into understanding how DNA affects my life experience. Participating in the research questions makes me feel like a "citizen scientist", helping to assemble new data to further our knowledge. In the eight weeks since I got my results, my whole concept of how I fit in the world has changed. My individual variants describe my uniqueness, but the knowledge that We all share 99% of our DNA makes me feel more connected to everyone I know.
23&me has taken a mountain of data and made it meaningful to me personally through an excellent interface that is pleasant to use.

Great for the family!!!!!

No one in my circle of family or friends have done anything like this and everyone found it amazing!!!! My family had no idea that we were native American and the health factors made total sense to my family and actually gave us a better idea of some of our families medical history......Once you tell people about your results and what you find, everyone will say they have to do it as well....Its a great conversation starter with old friends too. I joked with my sister that we were switched at birth but when I got her to participate it stated we are for sure brother and sister so she now has the upper hand on me now...lol..

When answering questions I go by the age I am now 83. Many questions pertain to this age but did not pertain to my earlier years.

Exitement wore off within first month

I did not learn much about my ancestors. Because my parents were orphans without much of known family history I hoped that my genes will tell an exciting story of my paternal and maternal families. I haven't found any relatives. The matches are too distant to consider any real relationship between us. We all came out of Europe at some point. So what?
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Life Changing!

As an Adopted at Birth tester, I have connected with so many DNA relatives and now have "family" of my very own to share experiences with. The Health Report is amazing, in the past everything was a Red Flag for me, now I have guides for my doctors and peace of mind for myself and sons. A fantasy come true! Thanks 23&Me!
