Interesting, but not for everyone

DNA is only one part of finding your family history, you need to do the actually genealogical reasearch as well so if that’s what you’re looking for, this might not be the product for you. DNA alone will not magically reveal relatives, you need to make solid connections via documents, etc. Professional genealogists probably find it a more helpful tool than the average person. It’s also probably a better idea to have your own health care professional run your DNA for potential markers regarding potential health issues as 23andMe even states they only test one or two markers out of several. Overall, I probably would not have purchased 23andMe if given the choice again.

Thanks for your feedback. Please keep in mind that DNA Relatives locates other 23andMe members that match your DNA. This feature is just one of our many features, and it is important to keep in mind that our customers use our service for a variety of reasons. We are unable to determine if or when other 23andMe customers will respond to your sharing invitations or messages. We leave the option of responding to DNA Relatives introductions solely to the customer.
Also, please note that 23andMe provides you with genetic information, but does not sequence your entire genome or perform predictive or diagnostic tests. Rather, we use currently available technology to examine your DNA sequence at a large number of variable sites called SNPs. Since this SNP information is difficult to interpret on its own, we review the most up-to-date biomedical literature on genetic associations and provide you your genotype information in the context of current scientific knowledge.

The kit was the best,I was adopted .So I just wanted to know a little bit on my birth parents,I am old in my 70 with grandchildren and it is natural that they ask question about their biological relative. I am happy that I was able to show them the Pie of where we came from. No one wanted to share information on their paternal side, So if my grandchildren end up marring their cousins .It won't be my fault they are beautiful, and smart and they have the looks of several of the people that are 2nd ,3rd and 4th cousins to me. have the same interest and likes.

My twin sister and I were adopted at 9 months old. She passed away a few years ago. My children gave me the dna kit the following year. I was able to find a second cousin that helped me solve who my Birth Mother was. Long story. Through 23and me I have connected with nieces and have developed good relationships. Some family wants no part of it. That has been difficult to swallow. Wish I knew more about genetics or someone that did to trace paternal side.

So far I have enjoyed the information! Neat to see the Connections across the map! So many people I’m kin to that I didn’t know about! Small world! I only have 4 stars because I wish I understood how to navigate through it better I’m sure it’s my fault I haven’t spent enough time learning how yet. It has been fun though!

EXTREMELY disappointed! To say that I am 99.6% Ashkenazi Jewish is like telling me that I am caucasian. Thanks, I know that about myself! You told me absolutely nothing about my ancestry. You couldn't even identify a country, just eastern European. Of which I already know, again. Total waste of money and time!

Thank you for your feedback. Human geneticists have found Ashkenazi Jews to be a genetically similar group. Ashkenazi Jewish individuals are a close knit population and individuals within the community generally share long stretches of DNA with one another. For this reason, we are able to identify Ashkenazi Jewish ancestry, distinct from Eastern European or German ancestry, using these distinct genetic markers.
Regardless of the place of origin, Ashkenazi Jewish individuals can be grouped in the same genetic cohort as a result of these genetic similarities. Therefore, regardless of whether an Ashkenazi Jewish individual's ancestors came from Poland, Russia, Hungary, Lithuania, or any other place with a historical Jewish population, they are genetically similar to the same Ashkenazi Jewish group. The is a reflection of the close knit nature of the Jewish population in Europe.

Informative, yes it is. But the information left me with more questions. Question that I really did not think I would be thinking about. I wanted to know the "CRYSTAL BALL" information. Most of the stuff is remarkably close to what I am. I wanted to know if I was going to die of a cancer at 66 or live till 99. Was I predisposed to addiction or was it just a coping mechanism from youth issues.
