Received this as a gift. I was very excited to find out more about my ancestry, as genealogy is a favorite hobby of mine. Format of information was difficult to understand. Unsure that results are truly accurate.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Love the ancestry results!

The ancestry results math my paper trail! It also picked up on my Cherokee ancestry!!
I wish it had a way to make a family tree on here instead of my heritage! I hate my heritage!!!
I love connecting with my DNA relatives also. I've been getting extended family to test also which has been fun to compare.
The health reports have been very helpful... 23andme was actually the reason my child was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder. We with her docs poured over her rare DNA data.
I wish it had a way to make a family tree on here instead of my heritage! I hate my heritage!!!

23andMe isn't helpful looking for ancestors

Several years ago I joined the MacLaren Clan DNA project. So those results apply only to the male side and only to people who also joined the project. I joined 23andMe so my DNA could also explore my mother's ancestry. Ay my age (80) little interest in "medical history."
I furnished known maternal lines: Hook and Yoder. Either no Hook or Yoder ancestors have joined 23andMe, or 23andMe don't look for them.
23andMe is focused on medical history and not ancestry.
