I would suggest offering more than just broad titles (West Africa, Northwestern Europe) for labeling. I was expecting to be told which country my ancestors were from. My results indicated that I am 85% West African, however, there are 16 countries in West Africa. Being an African American female (lighter shade of skin tone btw) and knowing the history of the Trans Atlantic slave trade I've know that I am West African and 15% European. To be honest the test wasn't very helpful and I wasted my money.

Thank you for your feedback. The population labels in Ancestry Composition refer to genetically similar groups, rather than nationalities. In general, we sought to make the populations as small as possible, subject to the constraint of being able to distinguish between them. Populations may be inherently difficult to distinguish because of historical mixing, or we might not have had enough data to tell them apart.

You can read about the population selection process in more detail in the corresponding section of the Ancestry Composition Guide: https://www.23andme.com/ancestry_composition_guide/

Your results are a living analysis. Using thousands of reference individuals we are able to continually evolve and improve your results. As we update our reference data, it will not be uncommon to see slight shifts in your results over time. Keep in mind that the knowledge of ancestral and health genetics is also continually evolving. The field is not static and new discoveries are being made every day. At 23andMe we strive to keep pace with new scientific discoveries and keep our customers up to date on new findings.

not worth the money I paid. Just me, Misleading advertisement. Great sales job. I found out that I am European. Just no where near what I expected even after I was sole the rest of the story for whatever reason that they don't give you the whole story to begin with.

This product would be good if half of your family participates, or maybe you want a vague ethnicity report.

Both of the products are complete waste of money. The test did not tell me anything I already didn't know. Boring presentation of results, maybe if you are a biology a scientist you can find something interesting.

Unless you are adopted or have many unknown questions about your heritage this test is a total waste of money. It turned upon nothing new for me or for my family.

Thank you for your feedback. Our Ancestry Composition report tells you what percent of your DNA comes from each of 31 populations worldwide. The analysis includes DNA you received from all of your ancestors, on both sides of your family. Some populations are inherently difficult to distinguish because of historical mixing, or we might not have had enough data to tell them apart. In these cases, your expected ancestry may actually be included in the broadly assigned ancestry for that region. The Broadly Assigned label is assigned when a piece of DNA can be found with some frequency in multiple regions.

My wife was very interested in the potential information she and I could receive from the 223andme experience. However, once I received the report I learned I was from England/Ireland. That is EXACTLY what I had been told from historical family information I had heard all my life

All I received was general information and NOTHING specific. I could have thrown a dart at a map and get the same information. Don't spend the extra $100 for the health information either. All you receive is information about rare and obscure diseases most of which nobody has ever heard of.

Thank you for your feedback. The data that we report is strictly genetic information regarding your genotype (e.g. the A’s, T’s, C’s, and G’s at particular locations in your genome), generated through processing of your saliva by 23andMe.
