I found my father

I have been looking for my biological father for most of my life, I am almost 40 years old. Through 23andme we connected. It’s been a beautiful gift. I spend time with my father almost daily now. 23andme led me to discover the family I always knew was out there somewhere and I couldn’t feel more blessed. I have cousins, a grandmother, and even a half sister. Thank you 23andme!

Question accuracy of info

There are things that I like 23 and Me but have questions about accuracy since there is no way to further explain answers. Examples: did you develop wisdom teeth...my answer was yes, but only two, no way to modify the answer of yes or no; does anyone in your immediate family have Alzheimer's disease...my answer yes, my son was diagnosed with mixed dementia, but he had a significant head injury when he was 7 and he has atrial fib, other risk factors not included in the options. To me, this partial information is inaccurate information which skews the results.

I found my bio family 25 years after being adopted

I received the 23andMe Ancestry and Health kit as a gift for Christmas. Christmas Day I mailed my sample out and a few weeks later I had my result.
I was connected to over 1,000 cousins. One cousin was a second cousin who, after a few more weeks, was able to connect me to my biological grandfather and father. Within 72 hours of that I had talked to everyone in my biological family.
Since being connected to my biological family I have a much better sense of who I am now. It has filled in many missing pieces and I would do it over in a heart beat.
I am extremely pleased with my 23andMe experience!

The health aspects of DNA testing is way better than my doctors would ever order on me. It found important carrier genes. However, for ancestry it's either a comedy or migraine. There is nowhere to save people links in case you find your 3rd cousin so the best you can do is take it to another site for storing your trees. You can't input more ancestors than grandparents for sharing so you end up with lots of messages to each other that don't help very much. You can input infinite surnames, but that is a quagmire of random unsorted names. To remember how I established common ancestors, I have dozens of pieces of paper, quite a slap in the face from 23andme. At a minimum there should be a way to sort some DNA relatives into various files like you would play lists on itunes. There are no file folders so sifting through data requires a lot of paper notes, again. Downloading aggregate data makes the sifting easier, but no way to keep it on 23andme where I really need it. The ancestry software feels like a dinosaur however, the company will upgrade soon I expect, because they have been improving vastly in the last 2 years.

So much fun

My granddaughter and daughter did 23&me and convinced me to do it too. We've had a lot of fun finding out little this's and that's. Proud to find my granddaughter is 1% Ashkenazi . My 1& Sardinian explains the hard edge that sometimes comes with my humor. And, we laughed when my beautiful daughter and I "connected" and found she has 50% of my genes. She must have gotten the beautiful from her father. I claim the smarts (just kidding, Dad).

Lives up to expectations!

I have been with 23 and me for over 5 years now. I love it! I find it interesting and creative compared with other companies and easier to use. The only problem I have is with the family tree not being available and having to use My Heritage which charges. On of my cousins had an extensive family tree on here and now it's not available. That's really not fair, I'm not going to pay to see their trees!

Extremely Accurate

My youngest son gave me the kit for Christmas. I followed the simple procedures, and was amazed at the results. A cousin had been doing intense geneology for the family, and the ancestry reports match, almost exactly with what he turned up. This is real, folks, and they do a great job.
