Thank you for your feedback. The 23andMe Health + Ancestry Service is the first and only genetic service available directly to you that includes reports that meet FDA standards. You now are able to receive 65+ reports on health, traits and ancestry instead of exclusively ancestry reports.

You receive 65+ personalized genetic reports to help you understand what your DNA says about your health, traits and ancestry.
In addition, the 23andMe site has been redesigned, offering updated tools and features, better functionality, and new content.

Not what I expected

The information was great BUT I could not print anything out to examine it and then there were all these additional questionaires that did not explain what or why they wanted them...just get some kind of points for what? I was confused and still am.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Your participation in our research project is completely voluntary. Choosing not to participate will not affect access to your genetic data or use of the Personal Genome Service. Even if you have given consent to participate, you are not required to take the surveys; you may choose to take all, some, or none of the surveys.
You are able to save and print an overview of all of your reports by clicking on the Reports tab at the top of your account homepage and then on the green Report Summary button. This summary provides brief descriptions of your results but does not provide detailed information that may be important for understanding your results.
For more detailed information, you can print each of your reports individually by clicking on the green Print button in the top right corner of each report.

Thank you for your feedback. For each pair of your chromosomes, one comes from your mother and the other from your father. These 22 autosomes are what we use to determine your DNA Relatives matches and your Ancestry Composition results, among other features.
The only piece of information that the 23andMe Service does not directly provide for women is the paternal haplogroup assignment. This is because the paternal haplogroup is traced through the Y chromosome, which women do not inherit.
Haplogroups are one small part of your ancestry analysis. If a male relative such as your father, brother, paternal uncle or paternal male cousin were to be genotyped then you would be able to infer your own paternal haplogroup information from his.

i feel the more people that contribute their gene make up to the overall investigation the better off we as a population of humans will be. A literasl gene pool. Knowledge is power.

Overall Experience (so far)

So far, my experience with 23 and me has been an eye opening experience. I learned about my mitochondrial DNA coming from Africa...thereby confirming my African roots on my mother's side of the family. I also learned that I was 90% African...which was more than I expected from 23 and me. I also learned that I have Native American DNA (in spite being mostly African) ...which was more than I expected. I also came in contact with some people that might be related to me. All-in-all, I'm having a very interesting experience on 23 and me, and I expect to have an even more interesting experience as I learn more about who I am, where I originate, and who is (potentially) related to me.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Great title

I received this kit as a gift from my daughter who had taken the test herself and was curious to see what DNA came from me, and what came from her dad. I've always been curious myself, and was pleased when I found it in my mailbox. It only took about 2 1/2 weeks to get results back. As advertised, there were some surprises. Overall, it was well worth taking. I only wish the 38% that was broadly defined as Northwestern European could have been broken down a little further, but maybe that can be done as techniques improve.
I would recommend this to a friend!
