Lots of American relatives

I bought it a few months ago and it has its goods and bads. First of all, i have twenty and forty times more relatives compared to other dna testing companies although they are all from one country, U. S. A. There are very helpful health suggestions and recommendations based on the questionnaire. The ydna and mtdna haplogroup analysis are very critically accurate. The ancestry data provides previously unknown and vivid information. The bad things are that there is no option to enter my caste/ethnic group. As an Indian, I find that extremely disappointing because it undermines our social traditions, customs and values. Caste is very important for each and every South Asian community to this day. Caste works like ethnic groups in the subcontinent because people marry, socialize based on caste and ethnic group traditions.

What we share with our descendants

My daughter bought me a membership last Christmas. She had recently had children of her own, providing me with grandchildren in the process. We knew that some of my health challenges had passed down to her; an elevated risk for heart disease, cholesterol readings that make you think of pudding in your veins, hypothyroidism... Having grandchildren has affected me more than I would have imagined. To think that these health problems of mine have been passed along to yet another generation spurs me to do anything I can to change that legacy. I believe that the best chance to change it lies in understanding the knowledge contained in our genes, in translating the language of creation. I have enthusiastically participated in any of the study programs, participating in surveys. Like any organization one belongs to, you will find that participating in the research will bring more satisfaction. I appreciate the work 23andMe is doing to increase our knowledge of the miracle of human genetics.

Very generic results. My heritage is European. Big deal. I've always known that.

Maybe it's me but I want to see my relatives without signing and entering my photo. This is not what I expected and wish I would have saved my money as I know no more than before!!! I wish I would have received a written report because I'm not computer savvy so that might be part of the issue

Heath is important and I found out that the fat consumption may not cause weight gain but it is important for my heart. I enjoy finding out facts about myself and my ancestors. I feel good about myself and do not have the worries I once had. I think it is important to know what to expect. I would highly recommend it to anyone.

I know a little bit of my ancestral history and this gave a wrong breakdown of my ethnicity.

Thank you for your feedback. Our Ancestry Composition report assigns results based on your genetic similarity to our 31 populations worldwide. These populations refer to genetically similar groups, rather than nationalities. If you do not see ancestry that you expected, this is because you more closely resembled our other reference populations genetically. Keep in mind that you randomly inherit 50% of your DNA from each of your parents. For this reason, your ancestry assignments may vary depending on which DNA segments you inherited from each parent.
