Extremely Insightful

I absolutely love 23 and me. The health reports are so insightful and interesting and have helped me learn more about myself than I ever thought possible. The ancestry reports are awesome! I wasn't surprised by my findings, as they were 100% spot on with what I already knew, but learning about my Maternal Haplogroup was so awesome!! I am hoping over time to connect with more relatives. I absolutely LOVE 23 and Me and all I have learned and am continuing to learn!

Helpful in giving me my raw data to research

I not only was interested in my ancestry but recieving my raw data as well so that I could find if I had any gene mutations. I do wish that MTHFR 03 P39P was included in the testing since they do all other mthfr testing. I was able to find out that I do in fact have MTHFR A1298C homozygous mutation so I do wonder about the state of MTHFR 03 P39P. I was interested for the results of the DNA test because I also have Hashimoto's and MTHFR genes are common for those with Hashimoto's. Over all I feel it was trying out 23 and me because there are many benefits to it besides just finding out your ancestry.

Alzheimer’s mutation

Overall this is a good product but I am still a bit miffed that they test for a very serious mutation for which nothing can be done. Brca is one thing. Alzheimer’s is another.

Well, don’t delve into math if you can’t add.
Trying to make sense out if your reports is like trying to read the spaghetti on the wall.

Our daughter gave us the 23andMe DNA kits with health history this past Christmas. After the holiday season, my husband and I completed our tests and sent them in. We really liked the fact that we could log in and see the progress of our tests. I logged into my account when I received verification my results were available, expecting to see my mom (we gave our parents kits for Christmas, also), my brother (who had used your company a few years ago), and a cousin that I was told was on there. What an overwhelming feeling I had when in the middle of my mom and brother, was a half sister!! Talk about life altering. Since 11 February 2018, she and I have visited each other, text weekly, speak on the phone often, and clicked from the moment our first phone call took place. Sadly, we have since discovered that our bio dad potentially fathered up to 25 or so of us, which we may never learn details about. My sister (I LOVE saying that), and I have found 2 other sisters and knew of one half brother. She and I both hope that over time, our other siblings will use 23andMe and want a relationship. I can quite literally write that 23andMe has changed my life for the better.

Some info is outstanding, some misses the mark

I am recommending 23andMe to all my family and friends because I found it very interesting and for the most part accurate. But do have to say my reports were disappointingly inaccurate on a few counts. Ancestry and wellness were generally spot on, but, like many other users I've heard from, I found the traits reports way off the mark. For one example, I was told my genetics make me very unlikely to match a musical pitch--much less likely than just the average person. But not only am I a professional violinist with perfect pitch, I come from a long line of musicians on both sides of my family..,.most of whom have perfect pitch! THis made me question the accuracy or significance of other 23andMe findings. Also, I think 23andMe needs some fine tuning for certain ethnicities. E.G., my reports showed me having some "East Asian/Native American" DNA----which is accurate--but then they had to go ahead and ruin it by breaking it down further to "chinese Dai" instead of Native American. I have known and proven Native American ancestors. There is absolutely no possibility I could have any Chinese Dai based not only on family history and meticulous records, but the sheer physical impossibility that anyone of Chinese Dai ethnicity could have come anywhere near the locations and migration patterns of my ancestors.
