TOO HARD TO USE!

This Kit is NOT for the typical layman to use. It is very very complex and unless your ancestors have purchased from the same company they don't show up. I have over 900 ancestors (all 2nd 3rd or 4th cousin's) and can't reach ONE of them. Don't plan on making a family tree using this product. And I wanted to know if my cancer was genetic. HA! You need to be a doctor to figure out this jibberish!

Not one change on any of my reports or my DNA "relatives"...not one after at least 2 years or more. What good is this? Is it really possible in all of the world, not one other "DNA relative" has test through 23andme?

Thank you for your feedback. One of the features included in our service is called DNA Relatives. DNA Relatives locates other 23andMe members that match your DNA. This feature estimates a predicted relationship and range using the length and number of segments and percent DNA shared. When two people share identical segments of DNA, this indicates that they share a recent common ancestor.
Unlike other genetic genealogy services that identify relationships on only the direct paternal or maternal lines, DNA Relatives can identify relationships on any branch of your family tree. It does this by taking advantage of the autosomal chromosomes—the 22 chromosomes that are passed down from your ancestors on both sides of your family.
Keep in mind that the number of relatives will vary for each person and will grow over time as more people join 23andMe.

Other DNA test companies offer much more ancestor information. I received 2 less reports than my girlfriend. Carrier status and Traits did not show up not epigenetic health risks. I am very disappointed with this service.

Not Accurate!!!!

My wife and I both know for a fact that we should have a great deal of native american in our bloodline. My grandfather and grandmother were both full blooded Cherokee native americans and yet my DNA came back that I am less than .01 native american. My father was of clear German descent and my DNA came back at less than .01% German. My wife's grandfather and grandmother were also full blooded Cherokee native american and her DNA came back at less than .01 native american. Her mother was 100% German directly from Germany and yet her DNA came back at .14% German and 51% British/Irish. Our ancestry is not in dispute! Now I don't claim to understand all the finer points of DNA, but I find it really hard to understand how both of our DNA results could come back so convoluted.

Thank you for your feedback. Providing each and every one of our customers with accurate data is a top priority for 23andMe. We have several quality control steps during the processing and loading of genetic data.
Our Ancestry Composition report tells you what percent of your DNA comes from each of 31 populations worldwide. Your results from 23andMe can only show you what can be seen in your DNA. If you do not see some of your ancestry assigned as expected, this is because you more closely resembled our other reference populations genetically. Note that you randomly inherit 50% of your DNA from each of your parents. For this reason, your ancestry assignments may vary depending on which DNA segments you inherited from each parent.

Much of the data on this site is totally incomprehensible to the average Ph.D. unless yours is in biology or mathematics. I really wish that simplified explanations were available. I have a Ph.D. in education with a focus on physical and social sciences.

I don't understand why you are asking questions all the time now. 'when open it on the home page there are questions that are silly about caffeine??? I joined many years ago, and found it fascinating though complicated. I recently bought a subscription for my 4 children...to a fault, they all say it is stupid, that you ask them too many questions. They are finding it very difficult to find any information. I plan to phone someone at 23andme soon to have a conversation about this, but I just got a call from a very upset daughter that prompted this letter.

This is a great tool! I have made connections and started filling in gaps in my ancestry. I have found close family members I've never met or knew about until now.
