Autoimmune Disease Finally Diagnosed

I was encouraged to do 23andme by a friend in a health group. Doing 23andme changed my life. At long last, I got information that made me aware that I seemed to be at significant risk for an autoimmune disease I had never heard of. I am an adoptee so there was no family history. 23andme genetic info helped me research this disease and share the info with my MD who scheduled an appointment with a Rheumatologist. The rest is history. I had gone 61 years of my life with often very sudden and painful symptoms which eluded diagnosis and which now made sense and could diagnosed and treated. BIG WIN! TY 23and me!

Am finding so many cousins, even ten generations back connections. All branches came to US by 1700s. So interesting to trace the families' migrations across the US and from overseas. Even have a connection to Sardinia long ago - a very interesting history and culture I research now. Finally have proof that we have Native Americans on both sides, just as claimed in stories of grandparents.

I received the health plus DNA as a gift from my children. I have been working on genealogy for 30 years and felt this kit would help in contacting DNA relatives. I was surprised to see my DNA has shown a different mix of European countries that I expected. I have made contacts with distant cousins and able to share some family information. I have been a avid contributor in the health questions and studies and have learned a great deal about my DNA health markers and variants.

I think what ever color a person maybe, it was fantastic that I have parts of me from every where, though mostly european... Highly recomended.

Love making connections with new family!

I learned so much about my health and ancestry that I never knew. I have made connections with family members I did not know and they have helped me extend my family tree. I have been able to help people find their relatives that they never knew before. It is a happy place for me.

Knowing who you are

This has been very interesting. Some of our parents have told us we are nationalities that we really are not. So your DNA is the real deal. I bought one for my daughter also. And my husband. This has been a really great experience.

I was curious about my ancestry and it was totally unexpected to find out I carried recessive genes for hemochromatosis. Despite 20 years of seeing physicians for the various symptoms, the diagnosis didn't appear until I got my results back, now I can do various diet and life changes to cure this issue. Wish I had engaged 23andme years ago.

Fantastic Information to Know

I am very happy that I participated in 23andMe Ancestry and Health testing. I loved receiving abundant information about my health and ancestry based on a saliva sample. The 23and Me keeps sending me new results of tests over the past couple of years. I am often relieved knowing that I am not carrying specific variants of diseases as much as I am happy knowing what genes I carry. For example, the genes for celiac disease and macular degeneration were detected and I made changes to my diet and lifestyle overall to prevent these diseases from developing. There is so much in my power in disease prevention and I have the information thanks to the 23andMe so that I am more motivated to make lifestyle changes. I also loved finding out about my ancestry and how many 3rd and 4th causing I have all over the world. I am grateful to know about my ancestry as it helps me being connected to others, even Native Americans or Africans. I know that my maternal lineage comes from Africa even though I am as white as a snowflake. The 23and Me widened my horizons and knowledge beyond what I could have ever imagined.
