It was the first DNA I ventured into. therefore I got the original "health profiles" and was well pleased with it. It was spot on for what i already knew. and gave me areas to pay attention to in the future.
the connection with cousins has been wonderful!! I did get some unexpected results, but they fit with anecdotal info i had received from another researcher. I then participated in another company's DNA test and the results were amazingly close.
Thank you 23 and Me
I would recommend this to a friend!

Disappointed by latest slapdash ancestry update

I bought this 4-5 years ago but the recent update to the ancestry profile removed several of the smaller population increments (the 0.5 percent portions) from my ancestry and what was "updated" now seems less reflective of what I know or have found to be there. I realize that the small increments have been just "genetic noise," but it still seemed a mess. I would have preferred no update. It seemed like a quick, sloppy job. I am getting my family members tested by another company. I have lost faith based on the update.

Thank you for your feedback. We recently released an update to your report that impacts the smallest percentages in your Ancestry Composition results. Any assignment previously labeled as <0.1% was either rounded up to 0.1% or rounded down to 0.0%. Assignments rounded to 0.0% were removed from your results, because assignments of this size may be noise within the thousands of windows analyzed by the Ancestry Composition report.
We are constantly evaluating the performance of Ancestry Composition and when issues are identified that can lead to improvements in accuracy, those will be applied for all customers. Ancestry Composition is a living analysis, and customers should expect the results to continue to update as we make changes to the feature.

Thank you for your feedback. 23andMe offers one of the most comprehensive analyses of your DNA ancestry. The data that we report is strictly genetic information regarding your genotype (e.g. the A’s, T’s, C’s, and G’s at particular locations in your genome), generated through processing of your saliva by 23andMe.
23andMe's reference datasets are made up of over 10,000 people, including publicly available data from the Human Genome Diversity Project, HapMap, and the 1000 Genomes project, as well as a large number of 23andMe customers who have consented to participate in research.
You can review information on our reference data sets within the Scientific Details version of the report. You can also locate this page here: https://you.23andme.com/reports/ancestry_composition/details/
Additionally, you can review the science behind the feature here: https://www.23andme.com/ancestry-composition-guide/

Genetic Profile Proved True

My results indicated I was susceptible to DVT and Pulmonary Embolism. I didn't think much about it until I was laying in the hospital with a huge Pulmonary Embolism. I told my doctor about my report and he ordered the same test through the hospital. It was positive. My follow-up treatment will be more aggressive due to my genetic predisposition to embolisms. 23andme may save my life and, because I told my relatives, may save them as well. We are also more susceptible to miscarriage, so I purchased 23andme as a shower gift for my niece!

My parents got this for me for Christmas one year, and it's been a hard present to top! I love genetics and finding out what makes each of us so unique! It constantly updates with new research and surveys, so this is truly the gift that keeps on giving.

I bought this a year ago and 23andMe keeps delivering new and interesting things. Between new health reports and new familial connections as people continue to buy kits, I am always getting pretty cool new updates. At the same time, the initial journey was really interesting. For example, my grandmother's parents migrated from Sicily, so clearly I'd be a large percentage Italian, right? Wrong, I am very little Italian, which means her parents family's had migrated previously. There's also a long history of Alzheimer's deterioration and I now have the peace of mind that I have no traits for Alzheimer's. I also have one trait for macular degeneration, so while I won't go blind, I will know exactly why I'll need glasses at some point in my life. There's just so much to this product. Knowledge of health, proof or disproof of family oral histories. It's great to get to know the factual you.
