If you want health information, this is probably the place to go. If you want genealogy information, it is not.

If you need a haplogroup and basic map of geneaology and being able to communicate for free, then this your test.
I only give it 4 stars for having to spit in a tube, im not a spitter. And they need to do more to encourage others to add all known surnames, I also dont like anonymous profiles. If your researching family tree and perhaps adopted, looking for a birth mom, they need more transparency. If a person needs that much privacy then perhaps they shouldnt be doing DNA testing. One can edit ones name so only first name appears in your profile, maybe that should be standard instead of giving the option of closing profiles or being anonymous. This way everyone can have some privacy but have all open profiles. I, myself had to close my profile because it was the only way to not share my full name. I just wanted to use my first name. Otherwise i would set it to open. So please consider changing that aspect. So the process is more transparent without hurting privacy.
Otherwise awesome company and testing. Except for spitting, lol!

Results were hard to understand and not as detailed as I had hoped. Wanted to get more than just what seems like guesses on some of the DNA results.

I was given this as a birthday gift. Because my father was from another continent, I didn't know much about my heritage. I am in my 60's and I finally know what I am made of. Thank you!

I like the reports but the blue shades are too close in color to easily see. A number or letter should be included. Is the top row if each chrosomes from the father and second the mother? I like how quickly I got my results. It was around 3 to 4 weeks. I wish there was an easy to see map of each area of my DNA. That little map is too hard to make out. My Heritage does a better job at that, although they didn't show any French or German for me and had me with 10% middle Eastern. I think the 23 and Me results match more with my family tree which is quite extensive. I spend way too much time trying to get cousins to answer my messages. I know many are on Facebook. I wish Facebook could interface somehow and put the messages in Messenger. I already made a friendship with a 7th cousin. We figured out we are related through our French Canadian genes and found the sixth great grandparents we have in common. I'm getting a lot of enjoyment but just wish people would reach out to me. Seems I'm doing all the reaching out so far.

DNA and Science: Full of Surprizes

Science in DNA has provided me with a comprehensive point of reference in self discovery...considering that I am a baby boomer...the doors of discovery have been an eye opener. I feel that the added bonus is the well thought out approach to genetic diseases...my hope is maybe, I can provide insight into some of these diseases by using my DNA for research purposes...hopefully, it makes science more approachable and humane. Building bridges across ethnic cultures and cost effective is the hope for outcome. Yes, the biggest surprize of all is how I was raised to believe, I was ethnic group and finding out that maternally it is completely different. Thank You 23AndMe for the enlightenment to me...

My Honest Review

I got my results July 31, 2017. Overall, I am satisfied. However, I am slightly disappointed with the Trait results. Half of my known, or visible, traits are incorrect. Lactose Intolerance (I AM!); Deep Sleeper (Yes); Back Hair (Yes!); Bald Spot (Yes); Male Hair Loss (Yes); Sneeze Reflex (Yes); Red Hair (When I had hair- it was strawberry & both of my children have Red hair); Cleft Chin (Yes); Earlobe Type (Attached). I am also dissatisfied with the way my genetic results were reported. Six population categories and unassigned are used. In my report, I am 99.7 European-and 0.3 African, <0.1 Oceanian, and <0.1 Asian/Native American. That total is >100! I feel the remaining 0.3 is negligible. For general public uses, and to account for any standard measurement errors, it would be more meaningful to show <1% in ALL population categories with results of 0.0% - 0.9%
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I bought this product with the intention of learning more about my health, but I was also interested in my ancestry. The reports I have read so far have been very interesting and insightful and I really like the fact that I have the possibility to connect with my DNA relatives. I have learned a lot from this!
