In less than 2 weeks for processing I was able to link to my Aunt that had been adopted as a newborn. We both needed this connection and both of our lives will never the same❤
I would recommend this to a friend!

Very disappointed

Main reason I signed up was to get an idea of my chance of contracting physical ailments apparent in the DNA results. I joined on the advice of a friend who actually got that information...even that he was more likely to experience Alzheimer disease. I have no interest in the origins of my ancient ancestors. Very disappointed and feel I have wasted two hundred dollars. I would suggest you include in your initial response to new clients not exclude the fact that no results for medical or physical determinations will be probided as a result of testing.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Thank you for your feedback. We are working hard to be able to add reports on genetic risk for various health conditions. At this time, we only provide the following reports: https://www.23andme.com/dna-health-ancestry/
23andMe will continue to seek FDA authorization to offer new reports.

Doesn't list all heritage, only shows the largest contribution. I know for a fact I have some american Indian recently, but the report only shows Eastern European.

Thank you for your feedback. 23andMe offers one of the most comprehensive analyses of your DNA ancestry. We provide you with one of the most detailed ancestry composition reports on the market today. You can find out about your ancestral origins, what percent of your DNA comes from populations around the world, your maternal and paternal lines and your neanderthal percentage.
It is important to note that sometimes, even if a person's great, great grandmother, for instance, was considered to be Native American, the DNA does not reveal the Native American ancestry because evidence is lost each generation. In general, however, Native American ancestry within the last few generations is likely to reveal itself through our features.

Thank you for your feedback. Having Native American DNA is different from having Native American ancestry. We understand that the distinction between ancestry and DNA can cause confusion.
Your results from 23andMe can only show you what can be seen in your DNA. Native American DNA is often lost with time and with every generation and may not be revealed in testing such as ours. For example, it only takes a couple of generations from a full-blooded Native American to lose all trace of Native American DNA.
This does not mean that you do not have Native American ancestry or that your family heritage as passed down through the generations is incorrect.

I had to do this test twice! Not sure what happened the first time. My great grandparents were cherokee Indians but my heritage didn't show that at all!!! It's like that didn't exist and that's the part of my heritage I wanted to explore!

Interesting Insights

23 and Me offers a more comprehensive test than most DNA services. I really appreciate the health reports and the deeper understanding of human migration patterns that can be gleaned from the haplogroups. The traits reports are fun, but keep in mind that the estimates are pretty general unless there is a very high confidence interval. It is regrettable that the health risk reports have been curtailed due to privacy/insurance concerns, but overall there is still a lot of fascinating information presented.

I was please with the product until I found an additional source that revealed that I have a fairly rare but serious homozygous mutation of the C677T MTHFR gene. This information was invaluable because I have several vitamin deficiencies and symptoms. In addition had I been of child bearing age the mutation could have directly impacted the fetus through miscarriages and or neural tube defects to down syndrome. I did not have children so I don't know for sure if there would have been any effect. I really think this should be included in the rare disease report as 10-15% of the Caucasian and Hispanic populations may have this mutation. If a friend asked me about this product I would give mixed reviews.
