Not very accurate

I'm pretty disappointed with 23andme because I feel this test is very inaccurate. It says I don't have traits that I do have, for example on my test it says I don't have a widows peaka but I have a very prominent one. I also feel that this test likes to just lump all Hispanics in one big category and say we're all related I've been paired up with people that I know for a fact we're not related. Another thing on the health test it says I'm at low risk for autoimmune diseases when my family has a history of them especially rheumatoid arthritis. This test needs to be more accurate for Hispanic customers this test is very flawed and 23andme needs to do a better job in being more accurate!

Thank you for your feedback. Providing each and every one of our customers with accurate data is a top priority for 23andMe. We have several quality control steps during the processing and loading of your data.

Most human traits are complex, meaning they are not determined by a single factor. Even when we find genetic factors that have a large effect on a trait, they still explain only a portion of it. This means that we can only determine the likelihood of having that trait. That means there is still the chance of not having that trait.

Many other factors influence traits, including your ancestry, other genes, and other non-genetic factors. That’s why we also include a section in each report that talks about some of these other factors. The results are based only on specific genetic factors that we know about now, but our predictions may get better as we learn more.

DNA Relatives locates other 23andMe members that match your DNA and predicts a relationship using the number of segments and the percent DNA shared. For more information about how DNA Relatives works, visit: https://customercare.23andme.com/hc/en-us/articles/212170958

Not Bad

I used this service and got the full package, but was still left lacking more info than I feel I paid for. Not only were many of my results deemed "likely" entirely wrong, but I'd say MOST. In addition to this, it doesn't say ahead that the paternal for females isn't available unless you have a brother, so that's weird. Also, the results aren't as thorough or interesting as I had hoped.

Thank you for your feedback. Providing each and every one of our customers with accurate data is a top priority for 23andMe. We'd like to look further into this. An agent from our Customer Care Team will follow up with you shortly via email.

Additionally, the majority of our tools and features use your autosomal DNA, so both men and women will receive ancestry information based on DNA they inherit from both their mother and father. The only piece of information that our service does not directly provide for women is the paternal haplogroup assignment, as this is identified using Y-chromosome DNA that women don’t inherit.

A Powerful Ancestry Tool! Am I Rothschild?

23&Me was a big help in my life. I have 298 Neanderthal varients almost all from mother, mostlikely the tip of the iceberg(punny.) The service put a 100% Ashkenazi Jewish and 100% Irish British parent both slotted exactley 1690-1780. I went back and found my 3rd great-pa under Carl Mayer Rothschild and the Irish Bishops daughter Henrietta Foster (as grandpa was managing all the properties of Pope Pius IX out of Senigalia Italy and his son was living in the vatican.)
With 23&Me you might find someone famous in your family history!

Incorrect Report Results

This test has gotten all my traits and wellness wrong. It also has inaccurately identified my Native American Ancestry labeling it from Mexico (my guess is they go off from whatever distant relatives add as their family's birth and home locations). However I know with 100% accuracy that my Native American Ancestry is Sinixt, as we have written documentation of our tribe and the reservation in which they lived in. We also still have extended family being 100% Sinixt. Hopefully someday 23andme fixes the Native American Ancestry by adding more tribes because we are proud of who we are and want people related to us to know exactly were they come from not what 23andme assumes we are because of whatever distant relatives add to their profile. Thank you

Thank you for your feedback. Our Ancestry Composition report will tell you what percent of your DNA comes from each of 31 populations worldwide. We currently have a Native American reference population within the Ancestry Composition report.

For a complete list of our 31 reference populations, visit: https://customercare.23andme.com/hc/articles/212169298

The recent ancestor locations - in this case, Mexico - shown in Ancestry Composition do not necessarily indicate that you have ancestry from that country; these locations represent where your matches report their grandparents were born. If these locations do not match what you know of your family history, it could be that your match's ancestors moved to the country, but are ancestrally from elsewhere.

You might only want to confirm what you think your ancestry is, but you also might be surprised and amazed with new information as well. If you are doing some genealogy of your family, this information is a great complement to your data.

Don't waste your money

You think, oh great, I'm going to get some valuable information by doing this kit. NO!!! Not the case. For the different categories tested, your results say, "more likely to", or "less likely to".... Honetly, you pay way too much to get the minimal information you do get (if you understand their less/more likely verbiage. Don't let the 30+ categories of information get you excited either. I would definitely NOT recommend paying for this kit; I plan on spreading it on Facebook too! Just not worth the money!
