QUESTION FINALLY ANSWERED!

I'm adopted, so the little I know about my biological family is undocumented. I'd heard that my background was English & Irish. I was THRILLED when my results showed I'm 54% just that. A confirmation of something about my own heritage!
Further, knowing that if close enough blood relatives also make use of 23andme services, I'll be notified is almost miraculous! Imagine, the possibility of meeting an actual biological relative for the first time in my life!
I would recommend this to a friend!

Thank you for your feedback. The Trait and Wellness reports provide your likelihood of having certain characteristics. While many of these traits are highly influenced by genetics, there are other non-genetic factors that affect the expression. To learn more, navigate to the report of interest and look at the Scientific Details section.
23andMe is only able to provide results for conditions covered by our currently available reports. If the condition you are interested in is not the topic of a report, you will not receive information on that condition. You can view all currently available reports here: https://www.23andme.com/dna-health-ancestry/

I was adopted in 1947 when families got no info on adopted children. I had a good life, but always wondered what my ancestry was.

Thank you for your feedback. Our Ancestry Composition report will tell you what percent of your DNA comes from each of 31 populations worldwide. The population labels in Ancestry Composition refer to genetically similar groups, rather than nationalities. In general, we sought to make the populations as small as possible, subject to the constraint of being able to distinguish between them. Populations may be inherently difficult to distinguish because of historical mixing, or we might not have had enough data to tell them apart.
For a complete list of our 31 reference populations, visit: https://customercare.23andme.com/hc/articles/212169298

23and me helped me find a half brother that I never knew about. We are so happy about our connection! Christmas came early for us this year. We finally see ourselves in someone that we are related to. What a wonderful feeling that is!

My wife and I ordered this kit after we did the ancestry kit. We found out that ancestry only did maternal and 23 and me did paternal as well. After we received the results we were surprised to see that the results were different from the ancestry kit we had done previously..... at this point we don't have a reason to believe one kit over the other and chalked it up to a fun experience but not informational or factual at all. I wouldn't spend the money on it again, but it was entertaining.

Thank you for your feedback. It is not uncommon to receive varying results between different ancestry analyses. Different companies can utilize reference data from varying sources. For example, 23andMe uses reference individuals from within our customer base to help define the reference populations used in Ancestry Composition. You are able to view the data sources for Ancestry Composition by clicking on the population and selecting Show Details.
