Found my paternal family!

I was adopted at birth in 1955. Through 23 and Me I connected with a first and second cousin, mother and daughter, who figured out how I was connected to their family. Next week I am going to meet my Aunt! This is all very exciting and more than I ever dreamt would be possible.

My cousin bought a kit and I could not wait until I had mine. I discovered that I had ancestries in China, in Africa, in India. Hard to believe !

I found my birth family after 53 years!

I joined 23andMe for health information. I was adopted at 2 months of age and had given up on ever making contact with my birth family. When my 23andMe results came in, I opted in to DNA Family and was excited to see I had been matched with two first cousins! I reached out to them, and was able to connect the dots and meet my birth mother’s family! What a wonderful, magical experience! 23andMe helped my lifelong dream come true!

Good Features, Simply Wrong

I bought this some time ago, however I notice the changes to my ancestry reports become less accurate as time goes on. There are some things that are simply known about my family's line.
For example, my so called "Ancestry Report" said I am part Native American and Northeast Asian, at a whopping 0.1% for both.
Now instead, I am 0.3% Japanese and Korean.
I am starting to wonder if this is some kind of joke to the people who make these tests. I am sorry to say, but oral tradition seems to triumph here, as there is no Japanese, Korean, or Native American ancestry in my line. This is simply known. Unless this is Native American DNA (doubtful) being mistaken for East Asian DNA (possible), your test is simply wrong and in need of improvement. It is disappointing, as the features are very fun. The ability to see my haplogroup, or others who share DNA with me, is very interesting and exciting for someone who is as enthusiastic about this area of science as I am. However, for me to see these percentages fluctuate, and as inaccurately as they do, is very disappointing.
I cannot recommend a product, in good conscious to friends or family, when I know they will not receive an accurate picture of their DNA.

My Mom

I was separated from my mom when I was seven and brought to the U.S when I was adopted by Americans. I did my DNA for my children to know of any heath risks they might have. I accidentally found my mom. This has been wonderful. Thank you so much. This is the great love and family story for anyone to see.

Reduced information, insufficient.

My doctor requested I have this performed for health reasons, unfortunately the company has removed a good portion (~7,000 of 9,000 total) of the genes that they used to perform. There was no indication of this change on the website and I found out only after my results were returned.
While the ancestry information was interesting that was not the purpose I was hoping to use this service for. I hope they begin running the full tests soon.

only one mistake so far

I actually have very dark hari and my report says likely to have light hair. other than that this is a cool service and i enjoy participating in the research. I have some unusual difficulties and was told it was attitude but its not its genetics so i can do useful things now to help myself instead of blaming myself. woo hoo
