I bought this to get information on the presence of genes that affect metabolism but the the reports provided only give information on superficial or highly unlikely genes. The section on hereditary background was ok but again lacked depth, didn't really tell me anything I didn't already know. Don't buy the medical part not enough information to be worth it.

Thank you for your feedback. The 23andMe Personal Genome Service does not offer a report on metabolism. You can preview a full list of available reports here: https://www.23andme.com/dna-health-ancestry/
The population labels in Ancestry Composition refer to genetically similar groups, rather than nationalities. In general, we sought to make the populations as small as possible, subject to the constraint of being able to distinguish between them. Populations may be inherently difficult to distinguish because of historical mixing, or we might not have had enough data to tell them apart.
You can read about the population selection process in more detail in the corresponding section of the Ancestry Composition Guide: https://www.23andme.com/ancestry_composition_guide/

Useless Reports - Way Overpriced for what you get.

The health reports (carrier) are few. The traits and characteristics reports are even fewer and not the least bit interesting. I wouldn't mind if they were part of a large set of less than 300 reports (the way it used to be). But now you only get a few of these. These are examples:
* what hair color and texture you are likely to have (really?) * you can or cannot smell asparagus in your urine ( .... )
Talk about useless stuff - I don't think I need to pay the expensive fee for that. Other services apparently have even better tech now.
Ancestry - lots of little facts and tidbits, I'll concede that. But even that felt a little shallow.
Basically: Overpriced for what you get.

Very easy - information was very clear and orderly. Moreover I was profoundly surprised by some of the results. I have a whole new ethnic identity to investigate.

I was surprised to find Scandinavian (3%) and Iberian (3%) in my heritage. I've traced my genealogy back 200 years minimum, and as far back as 1500s England, but never encountered Scandinavian or Iberian (Spain, Portugal). It made me think that my SWISS ancestors may have been largely Basque and my German ancestors may have been party Scandinavian. Also super surprised to find even 1% sub Saharan African at the 50% confidence level. Could it be South African Dutch, or was it Western African slaves? I wish that the percentages were more specific...for someone like myself, who's traced their family tree, I'd like to know more about WHEN the small percentages occurred. Also, I was surprised SWISS didn't come back as a finding, as my maternal grandmother's father's ancestors were 100% Swiss (the Germanic region) back to medieval times. It made me realize I need to understand the history of political changes and invasions to truly make sense of it.

Not What They Started Out To Be

Did the test and the results were far less than what my wife received 6 months earlier, such a predisposition for certain diseases. What I received was basic things I already knew! Waste of money...

Novelty Item at best

I received the kit from my parents for a Christmas gift. I don't know how much they spent but I feel like this was a complete waste of money. I can look at myself and tell you my eyes are blue. I know for a fact that I have light brown hair. I also already knew that I could smell the asparagus chemical in my urine. That's about the most usual information that this test provided all of which I already knew. I think that this test is really just a novelty more than anything. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY. I wish my parents could get a refund.

The $199 deal promised all kinds of health reports. That report was available to my grandson, but not to my wife and me.
